Free Music Notes for Brandi Carlile - Brandi Carlile + ( Bonus Tracks )

Free Music Review: Brandi @ Town Hall (NYC)
Hit: 4 Stars

Two or three very strong songs on this debut album. Carlile and "The Twins" did a song in concert without amplification by stepping to the front of the stage at Town Hall, in front of the monitors, something I have never seen an artist or band do before. They were "checking out the acoustics". I thought that showed some imagination.

Free Music Review: Why isn't this girl better known?
Hit: 5 Stars

Ok, maybe because her voice doesn't shatter the glass in your windows? She sings her own blues influenced songs in a warm, clear, rich voice that makes you want to hear what she has to say. Bonnie Raitt comes to mind, but Brandi has her own unique style. There's not an inferior song on the entire CD, and I'm about to buy her new one. You should too!

Free Music Review: Making a great album even better
Hit: 5 Stars

Brandi Carlile has pulled off the near impossible in this day and age, coming up with a Complete album of beautiful, heartfelt and original songs. There is no filler here, none at all. Her writing has amazing depth, and some of the upbeat melodies hide deceptively serious lyrics. This is one album to listen to over and over, and it grows on you every time. I cannot pick one or two highlights from the album, there really isn't Any weak material.

The music defies classification, it's at once accessible and fresh. There are enough hooks to make this an instantly gratifying listen. Despite that, the album is also perfectly produced, her voice and words always hold centre stage, never overwhelmed or overshadowed by the music.

This version adds two new songs. The live cover of Elton John's 'Sixty Years On' alone makes this CD worth buying again. It displays her amazing vocal talent, very reminiscent of Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin. The cello version of 'Tragedy' adds new depth to the song. Adding these two songs was a really smart move by the record label.

I cannot wait for her next album next year. Even if it is as stunning as this one, it will be nothing less than amazing.

Free Music Review: my favourite artist today
Hit: 5 Stars

This record is incredible from start to finish. Very great songwriting and an amazingly powerful voice.

Free Music Review: Not Since the Sixties
Hit: 5 Stars

I have not been as moved by a singer since the sixties, and I'm in my sixties. Brandi Carlile has a voice and a soul that could render any song fantastic. When people see this old dude with headphones in the airport or someplace they will probably think I'm listenting to Frank Sinatra or a self improvement mp3. Man, they don't even know. I recommend anything Brandi Carlile has for sale, and you gotta see her live.
