Free Music Review: Not Quite as Good as the First Album, But Still Excellent

I'm shocked to read all of the negative reviews for this CD. Many people keep describing Breaking Benjamin as "just another mainstream rock band churned out by MTV" and then proceed to list all of the other better bands that this band supposedly ripped off of. Well if they did "rip them off", they, in my own humble opinion, made it better. And seeing as how Breaking Benjamin is not played very often at all on TV or radio, it's not exactly the biggest mainstream rock band. Far far from it.
Breaking Benjamin is probably one of the very best rock bands I've ever listened to and they are now my top favorite band. The lead singer has a great voice and the music is just excellent and I honestly consider it somewhat new and interesting, because after I go back and listen to the bands they supposedly based themselves from, it doesn't sound very similar to me.
We Are Not Alone is the first CD I bought by Breaking Benjamin and I'd probably listened to it nearly a hundred times before I finally bought their debut album, which sounded odd at first but soon came to be my favorite. However, this album is still very good and I'm currently listening to it as I type this review as a matter of fact.
Here is my take on the individual songs:
1.) "So Cold" - (10/10) Probably their best-known single but after listening to it repeatedly, it's still an excellent song and hasn't lost it's effect. A somewhat dark and moody song that could have a dozen different meanings. The music is really unique and has a youthful sound to it, and is a little upbeat while a little down at the same time. Just a really cool song.
2.) "Simple Design" - (6/10) Not a bad song at all but I don't like it as much as other songs on the album. This is one of the songs where I have to be in a certain mood to listen to it. Dunno why.
3.) "Follow" (9/10) The guitar stuff in this song is great. I love this song, from the lyrics to the beat to the music to the way it's sung.
4.) "Firefly" (7/10) This song is a little overrated. Not that great. Good in some parts but a few verses are blah.
5.) "Break My Fall" (9/10) I like the way this song starts out. It has a somewhat repetitive nature to it but I like it...it's a little sad-sounding and desperate which is definitely different from the band's more agressive songs.
6.) "Forget It" (10/10) A perfect song. I simply do not understand why no one would LOVE this song. The music, lyrics, and everything is just perfect. I love this song with a passion and often repeat it twice or three times before I move on to the next song.
7.) "Sooner or Later" (8/10) Has an interesting feel to it but I don't really get what the song is about. Maybe because the band writes their songs half drunk? Anyway...a great song that I appreciate the most when I'm in a sad mood.
8.) "Breakdown" (7/10) Somewhat agressive lyrics in some places but like always, is overall pretty good, just not SPECIAL.
9.) "Away" (9/10) I love this song. The music is really, really cool and the lyrics are intriguing.
10.) "Believe" (8/10) This song is really harsh and when the guy wrote it he must've been pretty pissed off. This song is angry. But cool. I like it.
11.) "Rain" (7/10) Not a bad song but a sleepy way to end the CD. So maybe in a way it's almost fitting. It's an odd song that took me a few listens before I liked it but I just don't think it's that great.
Well that's it...here's to hoping Breaking Benjamin's upcoming third album will be even better.
