Free Music Notes for Strung Out in HeavenFree Music Review: Brian Jones Massacre - 'Strung Out Of Heaven' (TVT) 4 1/2 stars Hit: 4 Stars
Originally released in 1998, no doubt about it, 'Strung Out In Heaven' is a true neo-psychedelic / indie rock classic in every sense of the word. Think I have one other Brian Jones Massacre title. Tracks that make this CD a keeper are "Let's Pretend It's Summer", "Wasting Away", the all out psychedelic (should be a hit) "Got My Eyes On You", the catchy "Nothing To Lose", "Love" and the superb album closer "Wisdom". Seriously, the world today needs bands like this one. Should hopefully appeal to fans of Black Mountain, Ride, The Verve and The Lovetones.
Free Music Review: it's not so easy to turn it on anymore Hit: 4 Stars
way back in the 1960's, you could plug in your 12-string fender and illuminate the world around you. As Duke said, "you could strike sparks anywhere." Today, not so much. But there remain those noble souls who are trying to rekindle the glory. Full of blurry-eyed, jaded faded optimism songs like "let's Pretend that its summer" and "Lantern" discover new territory on a battlefield that was abandoned long ago. Matt Hollywood pulls together Anton's loose ends with his own prime cuts, creating a consistently solid album.
Free Music Review: Echos of Stones, Dylan and Who, but well done. Hit: 4 Stars
You can almost name the influences that seep through each song, but BJM does it so well, you can't care. The disc is vibrant and murky all at once. As far as comments on the recording style goes, it's all technique just as Beastie Boys use scrtaches and pops reminiscent of the true vinyl sound. BJM is a testament to the fact that true, raw rock & roll doesn't die. I recommend it heartily.
Free Music Review: An interesting addition to an eclectic record collection. Hit: 4 Stars
I really cannot compare BJM to anything else going. They make their own kind of music. For me it works. This cd is an irreverent love-fest. Its jangly, trippy, psychedelic. Perhaps some Arthur Lee and Love, some Velvet Underground. Overall quite laid-back. Best tracks are "Going To Hell", "Jennifer", "Nothing To Lose", and "Spun".
Free Music Review: Get your Tambourine and Sing along Hit: 4 Stars
Maximum Psychedelic Retro Overdriveatures with nice pitstops in goofy Flower era balladization. Some nuances of Van M's "Them" at times. Fun listening give it a shot.
