Free Music Notes for Tepid Peppermint Wonderland: RetrospectiveFree Music Review: Pure bliss. Hit: 5 Stars
Like many people, I knew about the BJM years ago, but didn't start seriously listening to them until I saw DIG! I've since seen this band play live several times and I've seen them at their best (when they've jammed for hours) and at their worst (when they've only played a few songs and abruptly left the stage). No matter what you think of Anton and his sometimes erratic behavior, the BJM are making some of the best music around today and when this band is on, not many other groups come close to matching their talent or intensity. Overall, Tepid Peppermint Wonderland is a sublime album that gets better with repeat listening. All of the songs are solid here, but the live versions of "Hide and Seek" and "Swallowtail" are absolutely mind-blowing and two of my all-time favorites! This 2-CD set is well worth the price, so do yourself a favor and check out this brilliant compilation. It's pure rock bliss.
Free Music Review: GOD ANTON! Hit: 5 Stars
The Brian Jonestown Massacre are the best band you've never heard of. I've always liked them from the beginning and have talked to Anton Newcombe after several shows. He is just the most ordinary, coolest guy ever, except don't mess with him because he don't take lip. He's also got a very sensitive side also and just wants everyone to listen to his music and start a sort of peaceful revolution, just like in the 60's when they used to make music that was halfway as good as this. He's like ALL-IN-ONE, just like God. Everything he says is like scripture, especailly that thing about Eric clapton's baby-he sucks!!! LOL. All you people are idiots for not listening to this band becasue you're too busy listening to hip-hop crap. VIVA LA UNDERGROUND!!!
If you just got into Anton because of D!G, you're just a poseur. I heard of them like back in 2003, so there!
Free Music Review: For anyone who enjoys good music... Hit: 5 Stars
I admit that until the release of the film Dig, I had no idea who these guys were. Anyhow, I was intrigued when I watched the documentary and heard their music. I soon after purchased this album, along with a copy of Dig. A week later I saw that BJM was coming to Salt Lake. The show was amazing! They played all of my favorites (Servo, Nevertheless, and When Jokers Attack). I also got to meet Anton, and was surprised at his down to earth nature, quite a contrast to the egotistical character that he appeared to be in Dig. Anyhow, the music is so real...the kind of songs that produce feeling rather than just entertain or amuse. This particular album is the way to go if you want an introduction to BJM. There are a lot of songs here, something for everyone.
Really, this is something I would recommend to any true music lover...
Free Music Review: ...And This is Great Music Hit: 5 Stars
If youre curious about Brian Jonestown Massacre get this album and give it a spin or two(in fact, get all of their albums). If you like mid 60s Rolling Stones,Velvet Underground, the Byrds, Beatles,David Bowie and early Pink Floyd, youre in for a treat. Newcombe and friends deliver catchy psychedelic rock in a way that sounds classic and modern at the same time. A spectrum of instruments are used to great effect:organs,12 string guitars, fuzztone guitars, tambourines, pianos and great harmonies. Some standout tracks include Wisdom, Who?, Vacuum Boots, This is Why You Love Me, Feel So Good,All Around You, Nailing Honey to the Bee, In My Life, Mary Please, It Girl and a whole lot more. If you enjoy psychedelic rock then spend a few dollars and support a great group that hopefully one day will be more appreciated.
Free Music Review: Anton Newcombe is the last great rock star! Hit: 5 Stars
This is an awesome compilation by an awesome band. Anton and co. are a dying breed. They are true artists who refuse to compromise their integrity for a buck. These 2 cd's do a great job at touching on the various stages of BJM's existence. Their work is so much more real than the slickly produced, mostly filler rock bands that permeate the airwaves today. BJM is not afraid to experiment and take chances. Their music sounds retro without sounding contrived (like the Dandys). It is like the old and the new met in a head on collision and the result was a beautiful musical accident.
As far as Anton and his antics are concerned, I say "right on", true genius is rarely understood. Go out immediately and buy their entire catalog or be square!!
