Free Music Review: Earthy Psychedelia
Hit: 5 Stars

I confess I had never listened to BJM until watching Dig. But once I heard the haunting strains of 'Servo', I was completely hooked. Dig was supposed to get people into the Dandy Warhols, but having not really listed to either band, it was BJM that I could not get out of my head. I bought this CD the same day and have been listening to it devotedly ever since. To the ear accustomed to slick audio production, the mix may sound a bit rough. But the songs are dreamy and expressive in a way that most radio cuts can't hope to be. If you are a fan of the more colorfully named groups of the 60's, Syd Barrett's solo work, or jangly guitar in general, you will love this CD. It is a superb introduction to the whacked-out world on Anton Newcombe.

Free Music Review: TPW: A Retrospective
Hit: 5 Stars

This was my first intro to TBJM recently. I am now hooked.

It took a few times of listening to really enjoy the various styles of music on this album.
I would thoroughly recommend this album as a starting point. There are so many songs to list as my favourites, but the ones that stand to me are "Vacuum Boots", "Anenome", "Just for Today","Nevertheless", and "Starcleaner" is an absolute standout!

Please check out all the other TBJM albums. There are some absolute gems on each, that are not listed on TPW:A Retrospective. I have 51 of their songs that are on my favourites list.( I only have 6 of their albums ).

The Brian Jonestown Massacre is now without doubt one of my all time favourite bands.

Free Music Review: WOW
Hit: 5 Stars

I haven't been able to find anything good lately, as far as 'modern rock' but this has restored my faith, though, they're 'best' stuff came out about 7 years ago...regardless, i think this is the best 'real' rock music i've heard in ages. i read alot about the comparisons to the Stones and other late 60's bands, but this exceeds them...the music is mostly guitars (3 guitars/1 bass) some drums, a tamborine, a huge variety of other istruments and lyrics that are immediate and 'in the moment.' it's hard to comprehend how much of their catalogue is so strong, all their albums just stand on their own merit. This is the place to start. Enjoy.

Free Music Review: Clean cut group of guys pull off a really solid album
Hit: 5 Stars

Clean cut sound and album, just a really wholesome bunch of guys who like to recreate the sound of the Byrds and Dylan, without ripping their predecessors off or making a big deal of the fact that they loved that era. Neat bunch of guys who are really prolific and ingenious in their craft of writing records. The head honcho for this group is an ultra-humble citizen who really does want to change rock music for the better. Solid all-ages shows for all to enjoy. Just can't say enough about these Christian-like do-gooders.

Buy-it-n-see!

Free Music Review: DiG
Hit: 5 Stars

If you've never stumbled across this band before, this collection is the bargain of the century (I know, the century's young, but...) I've picked up a few BJTM albums here and there, and while I've never failed to find them fun, they can be uneven. But whoever selected and compiled this 2-CD bonanza should get some serious recognition: This is the BEST of the band, lovingly culled from beaucoup (sp?) albums, and the price is ridiculously low. If you ever liked anything about the 60's, The Stones, The Doors, The Byrds, etc. etc. check this out.
