Free Music Notes for Brian Stokes MitchellFree Music Review: Did we listen to the same album? Hit: 5 Stars
I'm uncertain as to how someone can describe BSM as average-but, maybe they're having a bad day. I don't know how long I've been waiting for this album to come out but I was pleasantly surprised to find it on my kitchen table after a long day at work. What a way to end the day! The sun setting, BSM's voice and a slight breeze from the back porch. It's unfortunate there's the expectation to produce the same work over a span of so many years. If even for a moment naysayers allowed his wonderful voice to reach their hearts, clearly they would experience it's wonder and beauty.
Free Music Review: A softer, quieter Stokes Hit: 5 Stars
I like to think of this album as "At Home With Stokes"...you know, what he might want to share with you on his own time instaed of the sheer force he is constantly expected to use on stage. I have heard a few of these songs from him in concert long before the album ever came out and it just made me look forward to it all the more. Stokes himself has used the term "baritone poisoning," and this album demonstrates his versatility. I love the mellow mood. Stokes had plans for more abum in the future, and I truly hope they come true. He is an all-around first rate musician.
Free Music Review: This is an incredible CD! Hit: 5 Stars
Ever since I bought this CD over a week ago...I have been listening to it. The music and the vocals keep running through my head.
I am a singer and actor by profession, so I am not easily impressed...and I am a bit cynical.
This is a beautiful piece of work that took Brian Stokes Mitchell 6 years to complete.
Every cut is a gem.
Not one clinker on the whole CD.
His voice is beautiful, varied and strong.
Very sensual, commanding and full of emotions.
Something we all could use in our lives from day to day.

Free Music Review: Simply Excellent Hit: 5 Stars
Thank God we finally have an inventive and imaginative solo album by a Broadway artist. These are NOT the cookie cutter versions of these songs that we love so much. These are brand new arrangements, most by Brian Stokes Mitchell himself. They are smart, immersive interpretations of this music, and Brian is able to demonstrate the full range of his talents here. There is more to life, and singing, than simply belting out one standard after another, and Brian Stokes Mitchell delivers here. Buy it.
Free Music Review: Mastery, magic and music Hit: 5 Stars
If you're looking for the recreation of Broadway roles, this may not be the CD for you. If you love jazzy arrangements from a master stylist, this CD will become one of your favorites. Brian Stokes Mitchell is one of the greatest voices of our time.
I am reminded of that fabulous evening at Feinstein's when Stokes presented his first evening of caberet. It was magical, and so is this recording.
