Free Music Review: ...and then there is Brian Wilson
Hit: 5 Stars

There are not many people in popular music today who actually write music. They think that the computer generated sounds they produce is music, but it is not. And then there is Brian Wilson.
Brian is a musician. He writes music. That Lucky Old Sun is by far the best non-classical CD to be produced in years. He takes what could be a basic pop song and adds complicated harmonies, detailed rhythmic patterns and a wide aray of instrumentation. He modulates from key to key flawlessly and allows the listener to find new excitement in his music with each listen.
His non-stop transition from Good Kind of Love to Forever she'll be my Surfer Girl is remarkable. I had to play that over and over again, it was so good.
Brian's music is unlike much of what is being produced in pop music today. There will undoubtedly be people who don't get his music, and the reason they don't get it is because they have been subject to the current wave of horrible excesses for music.
What Brian produces here is magic. If you feel as if current music is letting you down as a listener, then this is for you.

Free Music Review: Surprisingly Awesome!
Hit: 5 Stars

I LOVE this, but it was not always so....the day this came out I listened to it a few times on my online music service and thought..."okay, but not worth buying" and am not sure if I listened to it again the following 11 months... Then with my online movie service I received the dvd version of this including the "making of" documentary, and that made me go back and listen to the cd...not just as music with words, but as the songs...carefully and as I took in the whole piece I could not help but be captivated at it's materful artistry.
I cannot say enough about this, and kick myself for not falling in love with it sooner. I was very critical of "Brian Wilson's 'Smile'" (and I still believe that is nothing more than him taking back and making money off of the bootleg versions floating out there as opposed to the "definative vision" which even he said does not exists), but "That Lucky Old Sun" is his first, in years, attempt at making a cd, and not only nice songs but Pet Sounds-like stringing them together to make a complete work. I highly recommend this!

Free Music Review: FIVE STARS!!! A Wonderful New Album
Hit: 5 Stars

After Brian Wilson released "Smile", fans wondered if he had any new music left in him. Well, with the release of "That Lucky Old Sun" the answer is a wonderful, and resounding YES!!!

Brian's singing on this album, as well as the spoken narratives, are wonderfully uninhibited, like he was freed from the haze that seems to surround him during live performances. Sonically, the album soars, especially on songs like "Good Kind of Love" and "Forever She'll Be My Surfer Girl". Brian waxes nostalgic, and not in a morose way in "Southern California", he lovingly recalls his memories of singing with his brothers. I would say even a passing casual knowledge of the greater Los Angeles area will bring the album into sharper focus.

The only problem with the album is that it is not long enough! Here's to hoping that Brian Wilson has more records in him like this!

Even if you are a casual fan of the Beach Boys, or love Pop Music, BUY OR DOWNLOAD "THAT LUCKY OLD SUN TODAY" You will not be disappointed!

Free Music Review: We would never have believed it could happen
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been a Beachboy fan since 1962. I saw the group in the mid 60s at the Academy of Music in New York and followed their career throughout the last 5 decades. When Brian Wilson started recording on his own, I was fortunate to see him during his first concert tour in Ann Arbor Michigan in 2000. I was blown away by his new band and their ability to support him to present some of his best, but infrequently performed songs. Then came SMILE, the album we had waited to hear for 4 decades, and it was truly a monumental work. But Lucky Old Sun is a fantastic surprise. Who would have expected Brian to be able to do this after all he has been through. Thank you Scott, Van Dyke and all the members of the band for supporting him so that he could give us this thoroughly enjoyable, inspiring piece of music. A great insight into Brian's life, with sadness and ennui, but also with uplifting tunes and plain great pop. Thank you Brian and all your colleagues for this wonderful love letter to Los Angeles.

Free Music Review: This is a masterpiece...Such Positive Music
Hit: 5 Stars

I am a big fan of music...all kinds. I had not listened to a beach boy album since 20+ years ago. I always thought they were okay...had some exceptional songs like "good vibrations' , "in my room" & "god only knows" ...I'm sure there are more.....BUT
I put this CD in my car stereo & headed to work one day & BOOM ...my god ...this guy is a genius.
Taking the cues from the sun rising & starting the day. This is the most positive , well written , groovin music with angelic harmonies.
I also got SMiLE...I like SMiLE a lot...but this CD in my mind is a masterpiece & is just a lovely backdrop on a sunny day. I guess it might help if you've been to LA & seen the capitol tower, gone to venice beach & stuff like that.
The best part of it is it sounds like Brian Wilson is happy, positive & his voice is so so so GOOD! Good Vibrations all around! Way to go Brian! Incredible.Songwriting at it's best. WOW. This is better than SMiLE. Such a solid CD.
