There are plenty of Beach Boys deep cuts to try, and several sources to read about Brian Wilson's story (essential). Give this CD a try, take it as a whole. There are some things you're going to love right away, like "Forever She'll Be My Surfer Girl," "Midnight's Another Day." and "Southern California". Others will sneak up on you after several spins. MORE POP SOUNDING THAN "SMILE", THIS IS WHAT THE BEACH BOYS WOULD SOUND LIKE IF THEY WERE STILL MAKING NEW MUSIC AND ALBUMS WITH BRIAN WILSON TODAY. IF TOP 40 RADIO WAS STILL AROUND, THIS ALBUM WOULD HAVE SEVERAL ENTRIES INTO THE GENRE. THESE SONGS COULD HAVE BEEN WRITTEN AND RECORDED FORTY YEARS AGO. This is one of the finest albums of the rock 'n' roll era. Mr. Wilson reveals his soul to us, explaining (to some extent) the how's and why's of his journey from stardom to depression to contentment. The joy of the Beach Boys' music comes through loud and clear, his maturing musicianship (and outlook) only making it that much more enjoyable.Free Music Review: New great songs and a fine album.

Great work from legend Brian Wilson. It's new material that offers the depth and sweetness you can expect. Vocals and production are easy on the ear. The album has traditional Wilson-esque quirkiness as well as sporadic holiday-style spoken narrative. Most material is on the happy side. Very very solid.
