Free Music Notes for Bride & PrejudiceFree Music Review: Excellent soundtrack Hit: 5 Stars
I had recently seen "Bride and Prejudice", a Bollywood interpretation of the film "Pride and Prejudice" which is about a mother who is bent on marrying off her four daughters. "Bride and Prejudice" is directed by "Bend It Like Beckham" director Gurinder Chadha. It is the American debut of Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai. Everyone including Aishwarya sings in the film. After seeing this delightful film, I had to get the soundtrack. The music is what really made this film for me. My favorite track has to be the addictively catchy "A Marriage Has Come to Town". It is the scene where Lalita and her friends are in the village shopping. The song starts out as a ballad and then the beat picks up. Other than "Dola Dola", all the songs are sung in english. Aishwarya has a really lovely voice. She sounds like a much more accomplished singer than most American pop stars nowadays. The music is traditional Indian music and very infectious. I can't get the songs out of my head. I could almost hear the music on the "Siddharta" series or on one of DJ Cheb I Sabbah's mixed cds. One of my favorite songs is "Take Me to Love (Part One)". Aishwarya Rai's delicate vocals really took my breath away. It is a beautiful ballad. I loved the acoustic guitar intro. That is when Will Darcy and Lalita begins to fally in love. I also loved the hilarious number "No Life Without Wife". That is one of my favorite numbers from the film where the sisters imagine if Lalita (Aishwarya Rai's character) had married a potential suitor named Mr. Kholi who was not exactly her type. The man is loud, crude, and obnoxious. What really surprised me the most is that r&b star Ashanti puts in a pretty decent performance on "Take Me to Love (Part Two)" in the film. Normally I think her voice is thin and weak but the songs she sings on this soundtrack is not as bad as what I have heard on her singles over the years although I do prefer "Take Me to Love (Part Two)" over "Touch My Body" which is a mediocre r&b track with a little hint of Indian music. The fact that the two songs she sings on aren't her atypical bland r&b fare, makes listening to her singing enjoyable for me. I kinda wished that Groove Armada's "Superstylin'" was included on the cd (which was from the beach party scene in the film) but it isn't a big loss. I loved all the songs on the cd so for me, it was not a huge detriment for me. Great movie, great music.

Free Music Review: Jane Austin Special ~ Fusion Hit: 5 Stars
I first saw this movie on the television over a year ago and for the life of me I couldn't find the title and when I did, lo and behold it took me by surprise. You see I'm a Jane Austin (JA) fan!
What a beautiful MODERN rendition of JA P&P! I loved it from the beginning to the end! This was definitely NOT Bollywood nor was it Hollywood! It was a beautiful fusion of east and west! The director and producer did an exceptional job in bringing two very diverse cultures together. Wish it was that easy today!
The music, dance, comedy and drama were sensational especially "No Life Without Wife"! Hillarious!! And the snake dance will have you rolling in your seat with laughter! But what I loved about this version is the ability of showing different cultures simultaneously! Taking it from the east and then to the west. Its a rude awakening when cultures can be similar where standings or caste are concern. Both lead actors did a superb job of displaying this concept. I've always been a Rai fan, but Rai and Henderson! OMG...magic! Henderson was dynamite in his role (*.*) especially in the garden with Lalita explaining his feelings...dang his expression took my breathe away...so real, so very real!! Rai put Elizzie to shame!! She was totally powerful with her part...loved it. By the way, Rai looked beautiful with the added weight. More the part than a fragile woman!
All JA fans...give this a try! Yes its not a JA but JA would have loved this rendition! Independent yet loved!
Free Music Review: One of my all time favorite soundtracks Hit: 5 Stars
"Bride & Prejudice" is one of my top 20 all time favorite films. I had seen it twice in the theatre last year and dozens of times on dvd. I never get sick of the film. One of the main reasons I love the film is the music. I love the blend of traditional Indian music with modern pop music. My personal favorite numbers are the uptempo tracks like "A Marriage Has Come to Town" and the hilarious number "No Life Without Wife" where Lalita and her sisters mocks Mr. Kohli. "A Marriage Has Come to Town" is absolutely my favorite song on the cd. I can still see Lalita and her friends walking through the marketplace, singing and dancing to this song. What I find so odd is that the ballad "Arrogance, Pride, and Vanity" isn't really heard much in the film. You can hear a few notes being played during the scenes where Darcy and Lalita are walking all over the beach, separately. I wasn't big on the two Ashanti tracks. I have never been convinced that she was a remotely half decent singer, and these songs proved me right that her voice is extremely weak, especially on "Touch My Body" (my least favorite song on the cd). despite the flaws, I wish that soundtracks today were as vibrant and colorful as "Bride and Prejudice" is.
Free Music Review: I can listen to it from start to finish Hit: 5 Stars
I saw Bride and Prejudice and in addition to loving the movie, I really enjoyed the musical and dance sequences. So, I took a chance and did something I've never done-bought a soundtrack! And I can honestly say it was worth the money- "Balle Balle" and "Dola Dola" are very energetic and beat laden songs that can keep me going on my treadmill and Ashanti's songs are good hipping shakin' additions as well. "No Life Without Wife" is just funny, and the more traditionally "musical" songs like "Take Me to Love" and "Arrogance, Pride and Vanity" are fun to listen to since they have extra verses that were edited from the movie that go nicely with the story. I'm quite happy with my purchase-and the foldout cover which include pictures of all the hotties like Darcy and Belraj from the movie reminded me of my "Tiger Beat" crush days....:)
