Free Music Review: Awesome Music!

After I saw the movie me and my friend had the same thought: "We have to get the soundtrack!" The songs are awesome and the huge majority are incredibly catchy. Blaque has two versions of their new single As If, one with 'N Sync's Joey Fatone and one without. As If is their best song to date, but unfortunately did not get a lot of airplay. Blaque also contributes the Bring It On Remix with 50 Cent, which sounds nothing like the original Bring It All To Me but is actually better! B*Witched take on Toni Basil's song Mickey, which is very appropriate for the movie. B*Withched get a little more sexual than usual on the song, but it still sounds awesome. Newcomers PYT have the best song on the CD: the beautifully sung song Anywhere USA that starts as a teeny bopper ballad and ends as a fast paced funk song. The Jungle Brothers contribute their song Freakin' You which is a strange song and fit the movie better than the soundtrack. 3LW has a great song Til' I Say So that is also included on their self titled debut. The song is mid-tempo pop/hip-hop at it's best, even if the lyrics are a bit cliched. Sister2Sisters song What's A Girl To Do is very good, and it is always on repeat for me. The major lowpoint of the album is Daphne & Celeste's song U.G.L.Y. which is too cheesy and corny even for Radio Disney. It's just not up there with the rest of the more mature flavored songs on the album. 95 South's song sounds like a Quad City DJs song, but that's not a bad thing. It's a 100% party track just itching to be played. If you liked the music in the movie, buy the soundtrack as most of the songs (With the exception of 3LW) are inlcuded in the movie, or so the album back says. This CD is great for fans of mainstream sounding R&B.

This breezy collection serves as a showcase for the many hip-hop R&B vocal groups currently on the Sony Music roster (Blaque, B*Witched, and Sygnature). Dublin's youthful teen group B*Witched revive and update Toni Basil's one-hit wonder, the cheerleader anthem "Mickey," while TLC's Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez's protégés Blaque contribute two versions of "As If" and a remix of "Bring It All to Me." Old-school New York City trio the Jungle Brothers add a Mardi Gras groove to "Freakin' You."
