I'll admit it, I'm a Britney Spears fan. Like a lot of America, I've been rooting for her to get back on her feet, and make something of herself once again, since she has such entertainment talent. Not necessarily artistic talent, but she is one hell of an entertainer.
On with the album:
There are some great dance tracks, like "Womanizer", "Shattered Glass", and "Circus", which throw back to "Blackout", and keep her reputation for dance club tracklisting open. She really does well on these tracks, since they're more entertaining, and not terribly meaningful, or deep.
There are also some personal slaps from her corner to the world, like "Circus", "If U Seek Amy", which go along the same lines as "Piece of Me" (on "Blackout"), in that they are a jab from her corner at those that would criticize her for her actions, or her body. Interesting that "If U Seek Amy" has gotten into single status... I wouldn't have called that, but really, the woman can back it up, and America loves that side of her, so why now?
The dud on this album: "My Baby". A horrible ballad dedicated to her sons. Other reviews have said that it provides a "strong" end to the album. I would go in the opposite direction and say that it very nearly kills the entire album, with that ending. Her voice is actually not bad on it, but the lyrics are horrible, very trite, completely overdone, and utterly unoriginal. Rather embarrassing, actually. It should have been completely left off.
The rest of the tracks, such as "Lace and Leather", and "Unusual You", are not bad at all, nothing really special, though, much of a throwback to her third and fourth albums. I have to say, though, she might not want to do too many ballads, at least ones that she helped write. "In The Zone" and "...Baby, One More Time" provided a few note-worth ballads, but really, as her voice has changed, she can't do as much with them, and her song-writing skills are, well, not much in the way off skilled. She's a fantastic entertainer, though, and if you want an entertaining album, this a great choice.
