Free Music Notes for In The ZoneFree Music Review: Britney is BACK and IN THE ZONE! Hit: 5 Stars
This is an incredible album. The main thing that stands out for me are Britney's vocals. They are absolutely amazing...you have not heard what Britney has to offer to the world until you have heard this album. Yes, I am Britney fan but I can say what is good and what is bad. You won't be seeing "BRITNEY IS PERFECT! IT'S ALL GREAT!!!!!" from me. This review is my honest evaluation of this album for its music. By the way, Britney co-write seven of the twelve songs. Now onto the songs! 1. Me Against the Music featuring Madonna This is a good dance track, with fast beats. The presence of Madonna adds nicely to the track (where Britney and Madonna sing together), though I am not that fond of her speaking parts. All my people on the floor, let me see you dance -- this track definitely makes you do that 2. (I Got That) Boom Boom featuring the Ying Yang Twins I heard this song for the first time when Britney performed it on TRL on November 10th. At the beginning, the twins came out and becoming rapping. I was thinking...what is going on?! Finally, Britney came and began singing. I really like this song. The beats and Britney's vocals are really good. The thing I dislike about this song are the Ying Yang Twins. I despise the parts of the song that they participate in. Don't get me wrong -- I can appreciate this type of music -- but all their random noises and their overall feel in this song are awful. I really think they shouldn't have been in this track. However, as harsh as it may seem, I simply ignore their presence in this song and focus on the parts where Britney is present and it turns into a really good song. The banjo rocks! It's very cool to see Britney singing this type of music...it really worked for her. 3. Showdown Not my favorite track from the album but it is still okay. I think it could have been better -- I'm not really digging the beats and overall rhythm. However, toward the middle, it gets really good! I like that part. This is my least favorite track from the album but I like all the songs and thus, saying that a song is my least favorite isn't saying too much bad about the song. 4. Breathe On Me Ooh...it's so hot in here and I need some air! I really like this song. This song has a Kylie Minogue feel to it. It is very cool to see Britney be daring, attempting something different, vocally-wise, than what she normally does. Props for her because it works! At the end, instead of saying the word "breathe," she just breathes...I thought this was a very cute touch. Very sensual song. 5. Early Mornin' You can definitely feel Moby in this song. When I first started typing a review for this song, I began by saying "the vocals could have been stronger." However, I gave the song another listen. I no longer feel this way. The song talks about the night after partying and all...the way it is sung and was produced fits perfectly with the subject matter of the song. Britney also adds some spice to her voice that makes this song really nice to listen to. The talking part toward the end of the song...very good part that goes perfectly with the subject of the song as well. 6. Toxic My favorite track from the album! This is a semi-fast-paced, FUN song! Great vocals and beats with some playing around (in both categories). I can just totally picture myself blasting this song in my car when I'm on my road trip this summer! 7. Outrageous ...when I move my body! I like the repetition of the word Outrageous in this song. Again, the vocals are really good. Britney shows that she is definitely not a girl anymore! R Kelly did a nice job with the song. I just wanna be happy in a place where love is free! Can you take me there? Somebody? 8. Touch of My Hand I will be bold...going to the places I can be out of control! The subject matter, of course, is masterbation. However, it is done very appropriately...so much to be one of my favorite tracks. The vocals, once again!, are very nicely. This song probably has the instrumentals/tunes that I like the most out of any song. Very soothing and calming. I love myself -- it's not a sin. 9. The Hook Up Another fun track with a reggae feel to it. This song's catchy beats will make you grab someone and begin dancing! I especially like the middle part of this song. Britney, once again, attempted something different and it worked really nicely. 10. Shadow Can you say best.vocals.ever.? WOW! This is a gorgeous song. Britney really gives it her all and hits it perfectly. The vocals are incredible and it's a very soothing song. I love this song! I hope it is a single. 11. Brave New Girl Another fun song! I really like these fun songs on this album -- it gives the album a lot of variety. I agree with another reviewer on that it is a "cute, empowering" song -- definitely! However, I really like the bubbly, happy feeling to this song. This another song I can picture myself blasting in my car on my road trip in the summer! 12. Everytime Why are we strangers when our love is strong? Why carry on without me? Every time I try to fly, I fall...without my wings, I feel so small. I guess I need you, baby... Another song with really nice vocals. I think that there could been a little less music and a little more Britney -- this could have made it stronger. However, it's still a great track -- very good! 13. Me Against the Music -- (Rishi Rich's Desi Kulcha Remix This is just a remix of the first track on this album. It has Middle Eastern influences that work really nicely with the song -- nice remix! My Final Thoughts There were a few tracks I disliked on ...Baby One More Time, Oops!...I Did it Again, and even a couple on Britney. I can honestly say that all songs on In the Zone are incredible and you will love this album! Music lovers of all genres will find something for them here. I said this over and over in my review and I truly mean it -- Britney's vocals in In the Zone are INCREDIBLE and the songs (beats/tunes/etc) are GREAT. (Again, as stated, Britney co-write seven of the twelve new songs on this album.) In the words of a non-Britney fan after she heard a few songs off the album: Dang. I'm going to Have to buy it now -- her music has evolved and matured soo much. She has matured so much as a person and singer and her music has matured along with her. In the Zone is an absolutely fantastic album. Go get In the Zone! -Dan1113
In The Zone PosterHowever coy she might be in her public statements, Britney Spears leans more than a bit toward the provocative on In the Zone. Less concerned with aiming at the mainstream radio dial than in the first days of her career, she and her collaborators make this as street and club ready a record as possible. The opening duet with Madonna, "Me Against the Music," is worthy, but the bigger superstar?s presence serves almost less as a performance than a key to Britney?s intentions: as Madonna did on albums such as Erotica , Ray of Light, and Music, she?s out to bend current trends to her needs. R. Kelly, Moby, and Ying Yang Twins all provide stirring moments that draw on everything from Bollywood to Southern hip-hop, while one of the most impressive tracks, "Touch of My Hand," joins the proud tradition of Cyndi Lauper?s "She Bop." She still lacks a fully formed artistic vision of her own, but Zone, with its many get-free anthems, puts her much closer. --Rickey Wright
