Free Music Notes for Live: 1975-85 (3CD)Free Music Review: Legendary... Hit: 5 Stars
I have had the great fortune of following this man's career from his early days when he was turning out great music but was relatively unknown to the public at large. His concerts were legendary, often stretching to 4+ hours of great, exciting music. You probably know all that, but it bears repeating because it is such a rare phenomenon when a rock star gives so abundantly at a concert. Some prefer drugs, alcohol, groupies and destroying hotel rooms. Bruce and the band would simply perform great music. The E Street Band is a true band - a dedicated group of musicians whose sole purpose is making music. They are tight and cohesive. This album is very special in that it is the best record of that period of time. Springsteen hit it big in 1984 with the release of Born in the USA. But for many of us, the period preceeding that was just plain magical. Listen to this set and you'll get a glimpse of a great period of music.
Free Music Review: Bruce Springsteen=Great Hit: 5 Stars
Bruce Springsteen is one of the best musical talents of the lsat 50 years. Since his debute album "Greetings from Asbury Park" in the early 1970's to the present... he continues to produce good to great work. There is very little music from The Boss that is not good. This album collection, along with the later Tracks collection, is a great introduction to what is great in Bruce Springsteen music. Of course, I would point out that it is still only an introduction. The individual albums like "Born to Run", "The River", "Nebraska", "Born in the U.S.A." are more than collections of songs. The songs, together, on those albums make a larger statement about life. Still, this is good for people who don't want to delve totally into purchasing all of his Springsteen's work. It also contains some of his good songs that never made it on to the normal albums themselves.
Free Music Review: Don't read the reviews- Just buy it!!! Hit: 5 Stars
As a mere 20 year-old college kid, most customers will probably not take me seriously. But, when someone my age listens to music that was popular when he was born, they take attention. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, Bruce is my favorite all time artist and this is my favorite album. Like many of the prior reviews, I love his versions of "The River", "Born to Run", and "Darkness on the Edge of Town." However, the reason to buy this album is in the passion he brings to the songs that most listeners do not fully appreciate or agree with in the studio. So when you do buy it, listen to the versions of "Growing Up", "It's Hard to be a Saint in the City" and especially "Candy's Room". Let's just say that after buying this album, I would put down lots of money for the chance to see him live one day. A 2002 tour perhaps, Bruce?
Free Music Review: Now I Want You All to Cast Your Minds Back... Hit: 5 Stars
Nineteen-eighty-seven was a heck of a year in the music industry.CD players were finally selling for reasonable real-world prices; things were as likely to turn up on CD as on LP for first release, and the record companies were *finally* starting to turn out some catalog CDs. And then they announced this set... and that was when my wife and i decided that we actually *needed* a CD player. And the next day we bought a CD player and this set. In the years since, i have not regretted either purchase. While this is hardly all of Springsteen's output from the years covered, nor is it necessarily, by some objective standard, the "best" -- but what it *is*, is the equivalent of a really good concert performance by Springsteen at the peak of his art. And everybody needs that.
Free Music Review: Essence of Springstein Hit: 5 Stars
Like another reviewer, I got to listen to Bruse Springstein in the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. Three times on three tours. Every time he came to Austin, he sold it out. The last time I got to see him he had sold out 3 shows. The center holds something like 30,000 people. On top of that, it was in the middle of the Austin Willie and Waylon era, (neither one of them were bad either!). But Bruce could fill the stadium to the top with his and the band's energy. Really incredible performances. This ablum is as close as you can get to a Springstein concert without going to one. I bought this ablum in 85 on CD's and I've worn it out playing it. If you haven't listened to much of Springstein, but you like his music, this is the first album of his to buy, no doubt.
