Free Music Notes for Live: 1975-85 (3CD)Free Music Review: Thrilling and recognizable. Hit: 5 Stars
These three cds are the best ones in my collection. The variety of rock and ballads is enormous, a typically Springsteen thing. The harmonica and the low, rough voice make me thrill, especially when it's live like this. The best song, in my opinion, is The River. It lasts for about 11 minutes, of which the first ones contain a long introduction by talking Bruce. He tells the story of his younger years, ends up with a climax and then the harmonica begins... absolute thrilling. It's so recognizable! A must for every cd collection!
Free Music Review: Because the Night Hit: 5 Stars
Great song. I love Patti Smith's version but this one's even better. That song alone is worth however much you pay for this album. Plus you get other rare gems (and great Bruce songs) such as Fire, Seeds and Paradise by the "C" (great title!), not to mention killer versions of Bruce classics such as Rosalita, Born to Run, Thunder Road, Badlands, Darkness on the Edge of Town, The River, Independence Day, etc. Whether you're a completist or a huge fan of The Boss (I fall in the latter camp), you really should pick this up.
Free Music Review: greatest live album ever... Hit: 5 Stars
My favorite Springsteen collection by far. This is the one I've listened to more then any other recording. Some of the live interaction between the Boss and audience is priceless. Some of the live recordings are actually more preferable than the original album recordings in my estimation (THUNDER ROAD, BADLANDS, THE RIVER). Pricey? sure. Worth it? without a doubt. This is in the Top 5 live recordings of all-time. Not a bad cut amongst all these songs. Favs are REASON TO BELIEVE, BECAUSE THE NIGHT, WAR, THE RIVER.
Free Music Review: A great collection for any Bruce junkie Hit: 5 Stars
Having seen Springsteen over 30 times in concert (and lucky enough to see him at the Agora in Cleveland in 1976 when there were only 100 or so there) this package gives the listener an idea of what a Springsteen concert could be like. I wish some favorites had been included - like "Twist and Shout", "Quarter to 3", "The Fever" and "Pink Cadillac". Having a live version of "Spirits in the Night" makes it a winner. Play it loud and play it often.
Free Music Review: great Hit: 5 Stars
This is probably the best single collection of Bruce Springsteens work. If you could only buy one Springsteen collection, then this should be it.Sure, it does not have his later good songs - after 1985 or so, are fewer in number. Sure, "Streets of Philadeliphia" and "Secret Garden" are great, but they are about the only great work he did since this album came out. This has Born in the USA, Born to Run, Hungery Heart, Growing Up, Atlantic City, etc. A must have...
