Free Music Notes for The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street ShuffleFree Music Review: Great Music But Lousy Fidelity. Hit: 3 StarsIt's a shame that this album has never been remastered to bring the sound quality up to what it could and should be. The music itself rates 5-stars, but because the album was never remastered, the quality of the sound rates 2-stars. To me, it is amazing that an artist of Springsteen's stature and accomplishment has allowed this inferior product to remain in its current condition. I keep waiting for it to be upgraded so I can buy it and hear it as it deserves to be heard.
Free Music Review: Outstanding Music from the Bruce Pastiche Hit: 5 StarsThis album got me through graduate school at Rutgers in the early 70's. Ripe with rhythm, textures, and the Boss's clever way with words, I identified with the energy and the beauty ascribed to local beach life as well as the romantic portrayals of diverse East Coast urban settings. I love this record and struggle with whether it is, in fact, his best. I love the rough, underproduced quality of this album, unlike what we were to see two years later with the slickly produced & packaged Born to Run (which despite the glitz is an excellent piece of music as well). Incident on 57th Street and Rosalita, not to mention Sandy, are etched in my limbic system. This cd still gets plenty of play in my car, especially on those early spring nights with the sun roof down.
Free Music Review: eclectic musical circus - Springsteen's best Hit: 5 StarsThe best CD from Bruce - EVER.
It's a stunning mix of Rock, Folk, Latino, Classical, R and B, Blues and Jazz. You need to be willing to shift gears as you listen to this one. Not for those who like a steady groove for an entire album. The material is varied, the musicianship is superlative and the production's great. The last album with drummer Vincent Lopez and the band suffers for it.
From punchy rock to slow musical poetry and all points in between. Truly a collaborative effort from all the musicians. Poignant, gentle, passionate, fierce and featuring stunning tempo shifts and arrangements. The poetry paints pictures of characters and stories that transcend their Jersey origins and speak to us all about youthful tragedy, love and the longing to be free.
I've been listening to this for over 30 years and never get tired of it. An intersection of genius, passion and musicianship that is so much more than the sum total of it's parts.
Free Music Review: The Wild The Innocent & The E. Street Shuffle Hit: 4 StarsBruce Springsteen-The Wild, The Innocent & The E. Street Shuffle ****
With Springsteens debut album, Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ he showed us just how promising he was as an artist but never reached it. Well His follow up The Wild showed us just how ambitious his talents were.
The was the earliest carnation of The E. Street Band with out it actually being the E. Street Band. Clarence was here and the feel of the E. Street was as well.
But what this album has asside from everyother Springsteen album is a jazz feel. All his other albums have slices of it thrown in but this is essentialy a jazz album played by a rock band. The musicianship is very tight, yet loose at the same time. And the lyrics in my opinion are more Van Morrison then Bob Dylan any day. With the exception of 'Rosalita' which is classic Dylan in his Blonde On Blonde days.
'4th Of July' is slower then the rest of the album and is acoustic but is maybe the most powerful song on the record. The imagry evoked in this song alone solidifyed Springsteen as the true poet his then since been known. 'Incident On 57th Street' is just sexy cool rock n' roll played with a laid back feel. While the album closer depending on who you ask is either the weakest or strongest track on the album, it's a personal toss up, and one that can only be appreciated or hated upon a few intence listens.
The Wild, The Innocent & The E. Street Shuffle showed us what was to come from Bruce Springsteen and The E. Street Band for the rest of the 1970's. While he would tone down the poetry in his lyrics slightly toward the end of the decade this album really set the mood for what they were to release. At this point I think the boys were just having fun and toying with us in the process. A must for any REAL record collection.
Free Music Review: Masterpiece Hit: 5 StarsTo rate this album anything less than a full five stars is ridiculous! This album is genious on so many levels, from the deep, thoughtful lyrics, to the amazing music arraingments; jazzy/bluesy/hard heart pounding rock & roll. There is no better one-two punch than Incident on 57th and Rosalita! Well, okay, maybe Born to Run and She's the One :). Kitty's Back is the best roller coaster ride you'll ever go on!
