Free Music Notes for Working on a Dream (Deluxe Version with bonus DVD)Free Music Review: Bruce back on top Hit: 5 Stars
This new album seems to have divided the critics. I belong to the group who think this is a truly great album - the one Bruce album I have enjoyed most since the River. There are similarites with the River also in the diversity of styles and some(for Bruce) light lyrics and poptunes.
What makes this album stand out for me is the quality of the songs. It is obvious that Bruce the songwriter has a flow right now. What Love can do, Kingdom of days and the Wrestler are only three examples of songs that belong to the best Bruce has ever written. The epic and fun Outlaw Pete is also a true gem and a track that will be a monster live. I think that the E-streetband has matured and play now more with nuances than muscles - a thing that suites these delicate new songs
All in all one of Bruce Springsteens top five an album that deserves repeated listenings
Free Music Review: Another Classic From Bruce. Hit: 5 Stars
It amazes me to hear people moaning about being dissapointed with this new work from Springsteen.I bought this cd deluxe edition for 16.99 euros and apart from the great music and lyrics I got a fantastic 40 minute dvd of the recording in progress.Compare this with the forthcoming U2 release where it will appear in 4 or 5 different formats. You can rest assured you won't be getting any free dvds or extra unpublished videos here.Christ you'll be lucky if they print the lyrics.I'm not going to go thru a track by track list of all the songs on Working For A Dream but I will re-iterate what I said.Bruce has come up trumps again here. All tracks are pretty great. It's simply another classic.
Free Music Review: The Renaissance of Bruce Springsteen Hit: 5 Stars
Springsteen is enjoying some kind of Renaissance of sorts. His last 3 albums with the E Street Band have all been "top drawer" material: THE RISING, MAGIC (my personal favorite), and WORKING ON A DREAM. He hasn't had a string of accomplished work since the '70s with BORN TO RUN, DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN, and THE RIVER. Although I prefer the raw edge and hard rock sound of MAGIC, I feel WOAD is much more consistent. Everything from the songwriting, singing, playing the instruments, and producing are all in sync on this album. If I had to compare it to one of Springsteen's earlier albums, I would say THE RIVER. It has that country rock sound to it. Highly recommend.
Free Music Review: One of his best Hit: 5 Stars
Truly diverse and one of a kind. The Boss jumps from genre to genre in each tune and pulls it off with the help of the E Street Band. This is Springsteen in a whole other mood than his past few albums, which were also very good. If you like "Girls in Their Summer Clothes" from "Magic", you will love this album. Upbeat all the way. Best cuts are "My Lucky Day", "Surprise, Surprise", "Tomorrow Never Knows" and "Good Eye". "The Last Carnival" is a tribute to Danny Federici, and it will bring a tear to your eye. The DVD is great too, showing the band creating a masterpiece.
Free Music Review: Vintage Bruce Is Back! Hit: 5 Stars
If seeing the incredible performances at the Inaugural bash and the Superbowl weren't enough, Mr. Springsteen's new disc is vintage Bruce and superb. I am so pleased that he is back!! If you are a fan of Springsteen from the days of yore, think "Greetings from Asbury Park", you will appreciate this effort. His voice is strong and diction is right on (contrary to some of his late 90's releases), no mumbling here. Of course, the E-Street band is sounding better all the time. The lyrics are meaningful and inspiring.
