Free Music Notes for The Chorus (Les Choristes)

Free Music Review: Les Choristes
Hit: 5 Stars

If I could give more than five stars to this movie and soundtrack, I would. I noticed the movie quite by chance while browsing Netflix. I was a French major in College and later became an American French teacher. I many ways, the film reminded me of the rotten experiences I had teaching at a private high school in San Francisco and in the Oakland Unified School District, so I related extremely well to the teacher in the film. Nonetheless, the music is exquisite. I let a Spanish speaking co-worker, who doesn't speak a word of French, hear one of the tracks. He wanted a copy "tout de suite". That's the music's universal appeal. I can't tell you how much I love it. Buy it! You'll love it too.

Free Music Review: A dream of an album
Hit: 5 Stars

I live in France part of the year and saw the film Les Choristes when it was first released there. The music was so wonderful that we bought the CD as soon as it was released and we've given copies to many of our friends. The purity of the children's voices is a joy to hear and the compositions the kind you like to hear over and over. The popularity of the film and music in France has led the Education Minister to reintroduce children's choral music into the middle school curriculum. I encourage everyone to see the film when it is released in the U.S. It is very uplifting and perhaps will remind people that music programs are an important part of our children's education.

Free Music Review: Haunting. Ethereal. Wonderful.
Hit: 5 Stars

I'd never heard of this composer before, but after having viewed "The Chorus", I was desperate to lay my hands on the soundtrack! The hauntingly ethereal quality of the boys' voices is remarkable. Just as with any fine Italian opera, the listener need not comprehend the language (in this case French) to appreciate this music -- although, quite thoughtfully, the English translation of each song's lyrics is found in the accompanying booklet.

Anyone who appreciates choral music, particularly as performed by a boys' choir, will find the soundtrack of "The Chorus" a highlighted piece for 2004 (or 2005, whenever it became available in the U.S.!).

Free Music Review: Non classic boys choir
Hit: 5 Stars

This music is haunting. I was inspired by the film Chorus and promptly searched for a recording and was grateful to find it on Amazon. The original music is beautifully performed by Les Petites Chanteurs de Saint-Marc choir with the inspired voice of the solist Jean-Baptiste Maunier. The words are inspiring and original as well; although in French, there is a translation in the little booklet accompanying the CD. "Look to your path," my favorite song says, "Children lost, forgotten, give them a hand to lead them to other tomorrows." I also recommend the film which is a brilliant study in leadership, humanity and warmth.

Free Music Review: A sound of inspiration
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this CD because of the movie. The movie tells a sentimental story back to the material difficult time in France after World War II. In that time, a default perspective assumes making a living is more important than anything else. Yet a teacher who was in a disciplinary school never gave up his passion about music and brought the spirit beyond music to the students. When you listen to music, in addition to melody, rhythm, harmony, you also like to see what the music implication. I would say this CD strongly indicates an inspiration of hope. I have enjoyed it very much, same as my family.
