Free Music Review: Near-flawless greatest hits
Hit: 5 Stars

I tend to be hard on greatest hits albums. While they are very enjoyable to listen to for favorite artists, I usually have some complaint about something that should have been included or excluded. Off the top of my head, I can say on this effort that this collection could include such songs as "One Night Love Affair" (from the most popular and best Adams effort "Reckless"), "Thought I'd Died and Gone To Heaven" (in place of the sappy "Do I Have to Say The Words" from the "Waking up the Neighbors" album), or a track or two more from the very underrated "Into the Fire" album. However, all in all this collection couldn't be much better. All the big rockers and great ballads are here--in a near-perfect mixture. I like the new track--the somewhat sappy but very enjoyable "Please Forgive Me". I am especially impressed with the inclusion of "Kids Wanna Rock" as an album track that top 40 radio didn't pick up on. This is a perfect summary of why we enjoyed Bryan Adams in the first place. A strongly recommended purchase.

Free Music Review: Good for it's time... essential for some
Hit: 4 Stars

...he's got a great rock voice. Sure, he's no Bob Dylan with the lyrics, and even the titles and riffs are cliched, but power pop doesn't need to be rocket science. It never did.

So this album compiles his greatest hits up till that point, mostly tunes from 'Reckless', the title cut of 'Cuts Like a Knife', and of course, 'Everything I Do' (which, while overplayed beyond belief still remains a guilty pleasure). 'Please Forgive Me' is merely average, but Adams manages to put enough conviction forth to sell it properly.

Since this album they've already put out another compilation, so it may not be worth your while to pick this up. Dock one star, however, for offering fans the option of buying the liner notes for this album at [an amount] ON TOP of the cost of the CD...

Free Music Review: Great music
Hit: 5 Stars

Brian's first Greatest Hits album is terrific. Packed with unforgettable songs and catchy hooks. The only thing that is annoying is the booklet (or lack of). If you want the proper booklet (32 pages) with the lyrics etc, then you have to send ... to an address in Canada to recieve it, which I think is a rip-off. Lots of single cds I have bought come with thick booklets...all that is needed is a cardboard outer case to hold cd and book, but not with this cd. It really sucks. So, needless to say, a lot of fans, myself included, miss out. But, that aside, the music on this cd is certainly worth the price, every song is great.

Free Music Review: He sold how many records?
Hit: 3 Stars

The next question is how?

I have this on tape and at the age of 12, this music acutally seemed cool. But I pulled it out the other day and wished that in 1994, I was listening to Soundgarden and not Bryan Adams. Why?

Everything that Adams's does is for the fans, you can tell that in the CD. Summer of '69 starts the CD and the first couple times you hear it, you might be mistaken into thinking it's a great rock song. Then you realize, first, it's a pop song with a fairly simple riff that's more pop than punk, and second the lyrics are terrible and they jump. "Ain't no use in complaining when you got a job to do, spent my nights down at the drive-in and that's when I met you." Right. Oh, they say the song is autobiographical, what 10-year old has a band where "Jimmy gets married".

Anyway, it gets worse after that. "Everything I do" has gotten mind-bogglingly annoying after five years away from it, no wonder I missed Robin Hood:Prince of Thieves.

Adams's seems to copy a slightly old-hat style that just doesn't hold up musically anymore. Eddie Money comes to mind a lot in listening to ol' Bryan croon in songs like "It's only Love" and "Run To You".

Listen to "Do I have to say the words?" and it almost seems like producer Mutt Lange forgot to give the song to the boys of Def Leppard for their next power ballad.

Just like the acts Adams had the misfortune of copying, it seems as if he has hit the Where Are They Now part of his career. Still, the music, mindless and trite as it may be, is enjoyable in groups to sing along to and reminisce about the old times. Just don't think to hard about how this Canadian could have been the most precious import to the US in the 80s.
