Buckcherry-15 *****
Josh Todd is this generations equivalent of Axl Rose. One hell of a frontman in red hair, but with one exception, Todd has one hundred times the voice of Axl Rose, in fact the man has one of the greatest voices I have ever heard. Keith Nielsen and Steve D are one of the best guitar duos of modern rock, in fact they might be the only guitar duo of modern rock. Jinny Ashhurst and Xavier Murial have created on of the strongest rhythm sections in rock history. With a little lyrical help from Marti Friedman Buckcherry has made one of the best straight up rock albums in a very long time. Songs about women and what you want to do to them or what you want them to do to you of course. This album makes me feel like im in the heyday of rock and roll back in 1975.
`Onset' starts of the album better then any other song on the album could. It's great and in your face. Some of the albums best lyrics and vocals are captured in this song as well as a killer guitar riff. `Next 2 You' is what follows, and its one hell of a rocker. Great riff and powerful lyrics, and lyrics that every guy on the face of the earth can relate to. The song was released as a single and went nowhere because the radio wouldn't play it and it's a shame because it is a fantastic song. Next is `Out Of Line' which is all about Josh Todd's vocals. It's his song. He and his voice are the focal point because he is just so amazing on this song. `Everything' is a cross between Aerosmith and U2. The guitars suggest The Edge and the vocals and lyrics suggest Steven Tyler. Either way it is one hell of a song, it's a ballad, well a power ballad and it is done the right way. `Carousel' is easily the best song on the album. Bluesy and country twanged guitars drive the song, and Todd's and Friedman's lyrics came together to make one of the best love songs I have ever heard. The song is perfect, and that's really all I can say. To appreciate the song it must be heard, and trust me when I say this the price of the album is worth this song alone. The same can be said about the next song `Sorry.' Featuring more lyrics by Friedman he really adds sensitivity to the band and it shows wonderfully. This is one beautiful song that every girl will melt over which is what you aim for when you write a song like this. `Crazy Bitch' is fantastic simply put! The only semi-hit single on the album, and its one hell of a song. It is getting virtually no air play and still selling that's how good the song is. Killer rock lyrics and an awesome guitar solo make are going to make this a concert favorite for the band for a long time to come. `Sunshine' is another great song with a awesome `roller-coaster' chorus. `Back In The Day' is a cool bluesy song about being young and in love. `Brooklyn' is another bluesy song but this time its acoustic and its one of my favorites on the album. The album ends with `Brooklyn Glass' a hard rocker with whiplash guitars and lightning fast vocals. A perfect way to end the album that is for sure.
The bands two previous albums Buckcherry and Time Bomb were both fantastic albums as was Josh Todd's solo album but this is by far the bands best to date. It's old Aerosmith and AC/DC meets The Black Crows which is one hell of a combination. Highly Recommended.
Free Music Review: WOW - REAL HARD ROCK IN THE 21st CENTURY! Hit: 5 Stars
Five years and three band members removed from their sloppy sophomore album, Buckcherry is back. The time spent re-charging themselves and re-filling band vacancies was definitely time well spent. Fifteen, named for the number of days it took the band to record it, is a bundle of energy and testosterone that harkens back to the stadium rock sounds of Guns N' Roses and Aerosmith.
Fifteen is an aggressive blend of southern blues and classic rock, with charismatic vocals. Replacing a drummer (Xavier Muriel), guitarist (Stevie D.), and bassist (Jimmy Ashhurst) may sound like a completely different band. It is, but in a good way. The changes are not as drastic as INXS' hiring of J.D. Fortune. Buckcherry's two founding members, Josh Todd and Keith Nelson, remain. The three new members energize the band, bringing energy and enthusiasm for the material that was absent from the last offering. Buckcherry has never sounded this solid. Tattooed lead singer, Todd's vocals have an enchantingly rambunctious quality; pulling listeners in from the first time you hear him utter a word.
Todd displays his vocal abilities proudly on "Everything". The soaring anthem's change from laid back to all out rocker allows Todd's vocals to shift from intimate to a classic stadium yowl. Strong vocals throughout the album captivate the listener from the distorted entrance of the storming "So Far" until the frantic conclusion of "Broken Glass". Thankfully, the band only slows down the party for one lighter-inducing rock ballad. "Sorry", co-written with Aerosmith's Marti Frederickson, serves up typical rock ballad material, rescued only by Josh Todd's Axl Rose quality vocals.
The album is overflowing with party music. Blues riffs float around the classic rock base, keeping the album from sounding dated. Trying to listen to songs like the enthralling "Next 2 You" without moving may prove futile. Todd groans, "I've been trying all night long / I've put up with your favorite songs all night" against charging blues riffs and a bustling beat. Returning rock to the principle themes of sex and women, "Crazy B*tch" provides the best hook on the album, begging for heavy strip club rotation - which it will most likely receive for years. The seething song churns along with pounding drums, enthralling riffs, and a volatile guitar solo all adding to the unforgettable (and unprintable) hook.
Fifteen's arrival at the start of spring is perfect timing; screaming for listeners to roll down the car windows and crank the volume. Recording the album in just fifteen days captures spontaneity and exuberance of playing a new song before over thinking and altering them. Sure, the album sounds like many stadium rock bands from years past, but it is easy to forgive the album's lack of innovation because of Buckcherry's sheer swagger and enthusiasm. Rock has not been this fun in a while.
Free Music Review: Buck is Back & Ready to Conquer! Hit: 5 Stars
Walk don't run to buy this cd! The crew is back with their 3rd disc. The previous being Timebomb which was released 5 years ago.
The band consists of Josh Todd the tatted frontman, Keith Nelson guitar extraordinaire on lead, Stevie D. on rhythm/lead, Jimmy Ashurst (the smiley one) on bass & Xavier Muriel ("X") banggin' on the skins.
This cd is "5 out of 5 stars" & has everything you are looking for in a disc!
Summarizing,
It starts with the track "So Far", that grabs you from the start. It is fast, sleezy & furious (they usually start with this one in concert) the grinding dual guitars of Keith Nelson & Stevie D. shredd. "Next to You" is the 2nd cut on the disc is fun, fast & very radio friendly. reminds me of song similar to Jet's big hit. "Everything" is another radio friendly song that is slow, delicate, gentle & then "BAM" it takes off! "Sorry" is the big tender ballad that will take you to new heights. Then the big song on the disc is #7 "Crazy Bitch". This is the most fun you'll have in a song. It's sleezy, groovy, & makes you wanna take your clothes off! I hear it is the top song at every Strip Club in North America! This is the song that will catapult them. "Onset" is my favorite on this one. It's fast & melodic. I could listen to this over & over & I know you will too! Finally, "Broken Glass" will appeal to the "punk rockers". It is fast, loud & takes no prisoners. A total punk vibe.
So quit your job, cancel all appointments, drop the tv remote & GET THIS DISC & then go see them live! TRUST ME YOU WILL LOVE THIS.......6foot5
Free Music Review: Buckcherry is back and better than ever Hit: 5 Stars
Buckcherry re-entered the rock game in 2005 with 15. If you remember, after their solid effort on Time Bomb, Buckcherry decided to call it a career. I was pretty pissed off, I felt these guys really had something to offer the rock world, and now they just quit!! After the first listen to 15, my love for these guys skyrocketed higher than ever. These guys released a hell of an album here, and in a perfect world, they would be on top, instead of still opening for Nickelback.
15 starts off like a monster and never relinquishes your eardrums. It sucks you in with Crazy Bitch, and smacks you in the face with Broken Glass and Next 2 You. Everything, Sorry, So Far, and Brooklyn are also amazing tracks that should get lodged in your brain for the day. I can't tell you any song that is filler, due in large part, because there is'nt any!!
Buckcherry is easily my favorite band over the last 11 years. I hope these guys keep making great rock records, and keep the classic vibe of rock 'n' roll alive. I say, get off your ass, go buy this album, and support these guys!!
Free Music Review: I missed these guys Hit: 5 Stars
I can't find anything wrong with this CD. It rocks like nothing I've heard in quite awhile. Buckcherry makes up for the disappointing "Timebomb" with an absolutely great rock CD. They charge out of the gate with the first 2 songs, "So Far" and "Next 2 You", then the middle mellows out some with songs like "Carousel" and "Sorry", finally blasting back with "Crazy Bitch", "Sunshine" and Brooklyn". Buckcherry proves they can do any kind of song, fast or slow and while lyrically they are usually dirty, bawdy and in the gutter, songs like "Sorry" show they can come up to street level as well. Josh Todd's voice sounds strong and the guitar is driving hard. Buckcherry is blues-rock at its best right now, a nasty combination of Aerosmith, AC/DC and Guns n' Roses. Here's hoping they don't go away again.
