Buy this CD! Now! It is the one CD in your collection that you will want to put on the player and be certain to hit the continual play button. Each time I listen to it I hear something new and exciting. More music, such as this, needs to make it to the mainstream asd it enhances the lives of each who listen to it. There is an ancient sound to this music. It feels as if you have known of it all along - perhaps caught a snippet of it during an old movie or as you flip through the radio stations in your car. Yet, to have it all there, in one CD, is really a gift. I have listened to Ry Cooder for only the past 5 years and his music, and the music of those he colabrates with, is the music that is the voice of the world. Thanks to those senior gentlemen of Cuba who brought their songs into our home.
Free Music Review: I don't understand Spanish Hit: 5 Stars
A while back I saw a preview of the making of the Buena Vista Social Club and at the time, it seemed like an interesting independent film topic. Not long after that I was in a bootleg CD store in Macedonia and I saw a copy of this album (CD) and was instantly intrigued; something about the cover struck me, so I bought it. What a pleasant surprise, and although I don't understand Spanish, I did feel the rich sense of emotion seeping through the sounds of this work. Vibrant; yet aged, this album reaches something deep that cannot be adequately explained. Buena Vista Social Club is a real treat.
NOTE: I'm usually not one to buy bootleg copies of anything, it's a personal form of silent protest and my way of supporting the artist; consequently, I scrapped the bootleg version and bought the real thing.
Free Music Review: Good music knows no boundary Hit: 5 Stars
I was introduced to Buenavista Social Club through the documentary film of the same name that I watched two months ago. I was so impressed with the movie that I immediately scoured the internet for more information about the group. I had my copy of the Buenavista Social Club album two weeks ago and until now I could not still believe that it took us so long to discover the music of these fine musicians. Anyway, they're here and let us enjoy their music. I am a Filipino and my exposure to Latin music is very limited but the songs in this album are very intimate and they seem to communicate with you in entirely different level. This album is a stark reminder to all of us that good music knows no boundary and that real talent will always find its way to our hearts. Cheers. Let's keep the music playing.
Free Music Review: A timeless masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is a true embodiment of what any music should be and feel like to listen to. I used the word feel, because when you listen to this music that is exactly what you are doing. Feeling it. The depth and intimacy of every track on this album is extraordinary, and what makes it even more worthwhile is that every artist on this album is they're playing their music because they love it. Not for monetary gains, or to produce a one hit wonder. This music is clearly in their souls; this music is quite clearly alive! Buy this album, listen to it and find yourself transported to Cuba itself. You can almost feel the heat of the night as you sit on a rickety chair, outside a small bar on a Cuban side street letting this music flow into you.
A truly magical musical experience for all.....
Free Music Review: Gracias Juan De Marcos Hit: 5 Stars
I have been listening to myBuena Vista Social club CD everyday for about 2 years, I have given it as a gift to many people, the result? They all love it. This album is such a gem you don't have to understand spanish to love it, (no wonder why at the sold out concerts by their members over half of the fans don't speak spanish) anyhow, the performances by these great musicians deliver a brilliant performance. The only thing that I am not happy about is that some of the musicians were not given the credit they deserve, for exmaple the great trombone player and band leader (as seen on the movie) Jesus "Aguaje" Ramos was not mentioned instead Ry Cooder's son Joachim was, but well, listen to the record and watch the movie for yourself and you will give the musicians the credit they deserve.
