Free Music Notes for Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Once More, with FeelingFree Music Review: The BtVS musical episode soundtrack Hit: 5 Stars
I love this soundtrack!!
"Once more, with feeling" was one of the true highlights of the BtVS saga. Magnificent!
These are my favourite tracks:
- Great and very funny start with track 1 "Going through the motions", Sarah Michelle Gellar can sing!
- I absolutely adore Amber Benson in no. 5, "Under your spell". Absolute Bliss! Brings tears to my eyes every time... Amber's quite simply the greatest multi-talent I know of. She can do pretty much whatever she wants, and does it; acting, singing, directing, writing, anything really. Look up her site: http://www.efanguide.com/~amber/
- James Marsters did a darn great job in no. 7 "Rest in Peace".
He rocks!
- No. 11 "Standing" with Tony Head is another excellent part of this soundtrack. I also recommend Tony's own record "Music for Elevators". This man is brilliant! Check him out in one of the many British tv series he's participating in these days.
- Amber Benson and Tony Head comes together in the heart-wrenching duet "Under your spell/Standing Reprise.
No. 12 is very sad and wonderful.
- No. 14 "Walk through the fire" is a real power song. Grand job, Sarah!
Those are my personal favourites, but the whole thing is down right smashing, so if you're a hardcore BtVS fan too, buy it. A must-have.
Forever tarafied...

Heehee I love this cd!! it's just great!! Even though Alyson Hannigan can't sing, she makes a valiant effort and judging by other reviews makes one of the biggest impressions!! Tony Head is per usual singing amazingly, what a voice! James Marsters had me giggling a fair bit as well! However, fair play to Sarah Michelle Gellar and Emma Caulfield who I personally think were better than Amber Benson. Yes she can sing but her voice is just too falsetto and grating to listen to often. However, Gellar's natural singing voice had a vulnerable, untrained quality which I felt perfectly encapsulated the place her character was in at that stage of the show. Caulfield's Bunnies song was just too surreal and funny to be believed! Nicholas Brendon was admirable as well. I WISH DAWN WOULD SHUT UP but that's nothing new. as for the songs, i loved virtually all of them. favourites include 'standing' which is just so touching, 'walk through the fire' which starts out hauntingly and progresses nicely, 'we're together' (hey ive died twice!), 'I'll never tell' and 'rest in peace.' that's not criticsing the others though, they're almost all fantastic. however, undisputed highlight of the whole thing has to be the grr argh monster at the end!! I would personally recommend you buy the DVD of this episode instead of the CD but as for quality, this cd is just so wacky and surreal, YOU MUST BUY IT!!
Free Music Review: Friggin' brilliant I tells ya!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Either Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon is brilliant or deranged; but it either case, his risky gamble on the season six episode "Once More, with Feeling" paid off brilliantly, even when using the entire cast's actual voices for the show. Sarah Michelle Gellar's "Going Through the Motions" nicely display her range as an actress, while Amber Benson's "Under Your Spell" is heartwarming and sweet. "I'll Never Tell", performed by Nicholas Brendon and Emma Caulfield, is hilarious, while James Marsters' gothic metal laced "Rest in Peace" show off his great voice and Anthony Stewart Head's "Standing" is simply heartbreaking. The entire cast unite for "Where Do We Go From Here?" which along with "Coda" nicely close out the episode and this disc, followed by the excellent orchestral suites from "Restless", "Hush", and "The Gift", and ending with "Something to Sing About" performed by Joss and his wife Kai Cole. The cast of Buffy is solid throughout, though some are better suited to not quit their day job (Alyson Hannigan and Michelle Trachtenberg), while the three suites are awesome extras. This CD is definitely worth owning for Buffy fans, just about all of whom no doubt enjoyed the spectacular episode that this disc draws from.
Free Music Review: A Must CD for Buffy Fans Hit: 5 Stars
Alot of BtVS fans found the episode "once more with feeling" to be the best of season 5 if not the entire series. Joss Whedom's musical episode was brillant and featured the cast singing their true feelings because of a demonic spell. This gave the whole cast (some more than others) a chance to reach into untapped talents. It is not surprising that the best songs were from estabilshed vocalist anthony head- his song "standing" was definately a high point.( And be sure to check out his CD "music for elevators") What was surprising was how well some of the other actors performed- amber benson, emma caufield and james marsters were standouts! But even those with less vocal ability (willow--i think this line's mostly filler--haha) were up to the challenge of this episode. This CD offered a variety of musical styles- pop, alternative rock and broadway to name a few. The best songs were those that featured the entire ensemble- buffy of course, is the ultimate ensemble show. Anthony Head and Amber Benson's mini duet was particularly well done - as was the cast ensemble piece "into the fire". A nice bonus for buffy fans was the music from past episodes like hush and restless. But if you are a buffy fan, this cd is a must for your collection- you will be singing these songs long after the series finale! (sob)
