This CD is a great example of why Butch Walker is an icredible musician. His lyrics are mostly awesome. Even when the lyrics miss the mark, the intensity with which they are sung totally makes up for it. Every Butch Walker song is honest and genuine, there are no fluff songs for this man, on any of his albums.
I give it four starts because of "tracks" 1 and 14. They aren't really music, and I would rather have two more awesome songs on this albums rather than the Fun with Real Audio that is these tracks.

For all the "alt, art coffee house acoustic whining hip hop emo" fans out there you probably won't like this. On the other hand if you enjoy rock and roll, nah, let me emphasis ROCK AND ROLL, then you might want to check Butch out. Instead of songs about how much life sucks you get well thought out lyrics, instead of guitars playing the same ultra distorted and run through pro tools you get talent. Plus you also get educated! Learn why you need ROCK VOCAL POWER! So that you too can sing like the pros.
Seriously, give this a listen and also try out his newest, Sycamore Meadows.

As far as jumps from band member to solo artist go, this has to be one of the most flawless. In LEFT OF SELF-CENTERED, Butch carries over lots of his Marvelous 3 songwriting techniques however, manages to begin carving his own identity as well. Songs like "My Way" and "Suburbia" have the upbeat energy that Marvelous 3 was known for, but they also carry their own seamless storytelling that Butch is known for. Songs like "If", "Sober", and "Take Tomorrow (One Day at a Time)" have become classic Butch pieces that are added favorites at shows.
Butch's LEFT OF SELF-CENTERED is a spectacular infusion of guitar, piano, and vocals. Butch is still finding his way out of his Marvelous 3 shadow, but is showing fans that he's not afraid of musical experimentation. Butch Walker has become one of the best storytellers, songwriters, and producers of our time and this album proves exactly why.

This may be one of the best CD's I have ever owned, musically awesome, this CD is killer, top to bottom, this cd just grows on you. Every song really is great, no filler at all. I love this CD! Listen to it everyday, I have it on my MP3 player, so every day I work I listen to it. "Suburbia" is my favorite song, but really I love them all. Pick this CD up and add it to your collection, its a definite must-HAVE!!!!
