Free Music Notes for LettersFree Music Review: Amazing! This a gem Hit: 5 Stars
I picked up Letters a few weeks ago and, honestly, I didn,t know what to think about it. At first listen, it seemed to be so different from the Marvelous 3 and 'Left of Self Centered', that I couldnt help feel a little dissapointed. The truth is I absolutely loved 'Left of Self Centered' and selflesshly, I wanted more of the same, not taking into account that every artist needs to grow and evolve. And now that I've listened to it daily, I can't believe how wrong my first impression was. This is a fantastic CD and in my opinion, better than 'Left of Self Centered'. Letters isnt as fast paced but that's a good thing because it gives you a chance to hear Butch at his best. Songs like Joan, Thank You Note, hidden track, and So at last are so well written and performed that you can't help feel the emotion and personally they all give me goosebumps. Don't get me wrong, there quite a few good rocking songs like Maybe it's Me, Mixtape and #1 Summer Jam. I love the fact that Butch was able to incorporate instruments that you wouldn't expect. All I can say is that Butch Walker is brillant.
It doesn't matter what your listening preference is, this a great Cd that deserves to be recognized and supported.
Free Music Review: Next big thing???? Hit: 5 Stars
You will note that I do not normally write alot of reviews. I have enjoyed BW for some time (back to Marvie 3) and finally got tyhe cance to see him live in Chicago. Even though the band was tired (end of tour shows) BW carried them throughout the night...phenominal! On to the album. I own over 4000 cd's (not bragging, just the truth) and this has to be in my top 5 ot 10 of all time. Yes, I enjoy power pop (Cheap Trick, Squier, Journey, Boston, ect) and metal and classic rock and jazz and blues and, gulp...even some country (very little). BW does what very few artist can do nowadays, it is obvious that he has similar musical taste an yet has the ability to fuse these interests into music through great songwriting, great production, and top muscicianship...mucianship...the guy can flat out play music. Many other have gone through song by song breakdowns of this album so I will not bother other than to say if you love "music" you will find something to love on this album and it will grow on you, give it a chance, you will not be dissappointed. He also has a DVD out on sony music that is incredible, check it out!
Free Music Review: Amazing...both on disc and live! Hit: 5 Stars
I recently was introduced to the music of Butch Walker when I attended an Avril show in Portland, Oregon. I had never heard of the man, whose name graced the curtain hanging behind the stage, and was sure that I wouldn't be impressed. Then, the video screens exploded with his voice and face..."WOW" was all I could say. Then, he took the stage and played what was definitely the best hour and a half of my time ever spent! What a lyricist, vocalist, performer. I have never been so impressed with a vocalist in a long time and I immediately ran and purchased "Letters" from a booth in the arena lobby. What an incredible evening...what incredible moments spent listening to this disc over and over again. Highlights include: So at Last, Mixtape, Joan, Promises and the two most fabulous songs - both on disc and performed live - Best Thing You Never Had and Don't Move. If you yearn for true musicianship...are sick of the bubble gum, pop, lip-syncing "wannabees"...put your hard earned money on the table and purchase this disc! You WILL NOT be disappointed!!!
Free Music Review: A Pop Master Hit: 5 Stars
Butch Walker has a gift for pop music. He writes it. He performs it. He edits and produces it, and because he is so rarely multi-talented he has had successes in each arena. You may not know his name, but you know music he's touched. From his high school band Marvelous 3 ("Freak of the Week") to writing/producing for such bands as SR-71, Lit, Avril Lavigne, American Hi-Fi, and Injected, you probably know a lot of songs that owe much (if not all) their success to Butch's insights and assistance. His solo debut "Left of Self-Centered" was catchy but spotty, with no awful songs but few real gems (try "Far Away from Close" or "Take Tomorrow"). However, Butch comes into his own as a solo artist with "Letters," with flowing melodies and gripping pop hooks. While some fans will disparage it for the relatively fewer punk/glam rock songs, listen to it as a roving tour of pop/rock over the last ten years. Personally, I prefer to think of it as a testament to what the genre's been at its best.
Free Music Review: bringing new meaning to music Hit: 5 Stars
This should come as no surprise to long time Butch fans, but to those of you who aren't so fortunate to know the glory, listen and you shall hear my friend of how awesome this album is.
Butch Walker writes songs based on his childhood growing up in cartersville, GA (USA), his move to LA as a teenager, and his trial and error in relationships. The combination of these three factors make for a wonderful style of story telling music.
On this album you will find a few fun songs, a few serious, and others that don't really fall in either category. If you've never heard butch before, this is a great starter album for you.
On a side note, Butch Walker has produced and co-written with some of todays top talent including: Avril Lavinge, SR-71, American Hi-fi, Sevendust, Simpleplan,Stroke 9, Bowling for soup, The Donnas, GOB, and that is just to name a few.
You will not be disapointed with the musical stylings of mr. Butch Walker.
