I have had anxiety problems for as long as I can remember; even when I was little, I would lay awake at night thinking about things over and over and fixating on issues beyond my control.
Now that I have a more stressful job, I'm finding that I'm anxious and unable to sleep and on top of hurting my mind during the day, it has a horrible impact on my body.
My boyfriend suggested I look into some meditation/self-hypnosis to help since, in his opinion, I had a personality that would be well-suited for it.
I spent a long time going through Amazon reviews to find what I wanted. I wanted something that wasn't involving a "higher power," had a truly soothing voice, and had background music that wasn't weird. Most importantly, nothing too hippy-dippy.
This was really fantastic for me. The first night I listened, I could feel some of the muscles in my body beginning to relax and for the first time in months I was able to sleep soundly. I woke up the next morning completely refreshed and ready for my day---- and that NEVER happens. I'm NOT a morning person, but here I was, up and completely relaxed and in a great mood.
I've listened to it for a week now since then and while I've only made it through the entire recording once (the first night I listened), I know that it's working. Well, of course it's working; I've gone from taking a couple hours to unwind and fall asleep to falling asleep in less than 20 minutes! Just the thought of the "elevator" Doreen suggests picturing to bring you deeper into relaxation helps me to calm down at night and, better still, I now find that counting down from 3 when I'm very stressed out helps me feel focused, as I can remember the way I channeled that relaxing energy the night before.
Trust me- if this sort of thing seems weird or silly to you, I get it. I would have said the same thing had this CD not worked wonders for me. I look forward to going to bed at night because it means I get to be completely relaxed and have time for myself for once.
