Free Music Review: A Long Time Cake Fan's Review

When I eagerly waited for my new Cake album to come in the mail, I had been listening to the other 5 Cake albums that I own so that I could get an accurate read on the new album.
B-sides and Rarities falls short of my expectations. It does not have the traditional great Cake sound that was most evident in Comfort Eagle.
The main reason that I have found for this was that John McCrea had only written 1 of the songs on the CD as opposed to ALL of the songs on Comfort Eagle. Remakes are great by Cake(listen to "I will survive" on Fashion Nugget for example) but only when they are scarce on the albums. This CD is missing the great original Cake songs.
The CD isn't without an alright song or two, Mahna Mahna is a recreation in a great Cake trumpet-infused way.
Save one of two good songs, this Cake album is a big disappointment.
