Free Music Review: This weirdo rocks!
Hit: 4 Stars

Calvin Harris is definitely one creative dude. I have yet to hear anything like this guy. The beats are catchy, dissonant, electro and with somewhat of an 80's flare. I played this at a party last weekend and it was a huge hit. I must warn this music would scare most people. The lyrics are a bit weird as is his singing which can sound completely ridiculous and laughable " It was acceptable in the 80's, it was acceptable at the ti-i-ime" (sung in a very high pitch). Gotta love it.

Free Music Review: Even people in comas will want to dance
Hit: 4 Stars

Wonderful electronic dance music with just the right amount of retro feel. Great hooks and a great variety of material makes this one of the better CDs in the electronic genre. And even though Harris doesn't exactly break any new ground, he still manages to stand apart from other artists of similar ilk. Thumbs up.

Free Music Review: Wonderful!
Hit: 5 Stars

Who care's what people say, I love this album. Calvin's voice is just so... he just make's me melt ^^

Free Music Review: Poppy-Electro-Disco?
Hit: 2 Stars

Not sure how to categorize this... there are so many facets of "techno" nowadays.

It's definitely really poppy, with elements of funk and disco. For me, certain tracks stood out more than others and they didn't all tie in together as one like, say, a Chemical Brothers album might provide. Though the Chemical Brothers do incorporate a lot of funk into their sound, I would not compare the two or recommend purchasing them together (as amazon is currently offering). It's not exactly an original sound, but I would probably most compare Calvin to Cassius... of the music that I am familiar with.

Not as energetic as Prodigy, not as electro as Chemical Bros., not as catchy as Daft Punk. It all has a similar sound and feel throughout the album. Lots of repetition and loops (which most of electro is, but more so here) I can't complain, I like the broad spectrum of techno, and it definitely has a couple great tracks... so... it was alright. It would have to have more redeeming factors for me to give it even an 'average' rating.

Maybe it's the type of thing you'd hear at a trendy UK night club. Though I'm not from the UK so who knows.

Free Music Review: Disco on the dance floor
Hit: 5 Stars

Calvin Harris, red hot it-producer of the moment, comes up with his debut effort and draws influences from Daft Punk, The LCD Soundsystem, Kraftwerk and a whole lot of 80's music to create his own electroclash songs.

Complete with retro hooks, bleeps and the yesteryear glitz, Harris cleverly wraps them in electronic music to give them a somewhat familiar yet futuristic sound. Where some songs sound suspiciously ripoffs (title track) of Mylo, more original compositions like the inane The Girls, the retro Acceptable in the 80s and the fabulous party anthem Vegas are certainly accomplished tracks in their own right. Most of the tracks are accompanied by a male vocal (presumably his).

At age 23, Harris might not have created disco but has certainly created one of the better records of 2007.
