Free Music Review: Splendid Cast Singing A Brilliant Lerner and Loewe Score
Hit: 5 Stars

Truly this is one of the better cast albums I've heard from an original Broadway cast. Richard Burton, and especially, Julie Andrews and Robert Goulet are magnificent; yet Goulet steals the show with his memorable performance of "If Ever I Should Leave You". To my amazement, the album also features a young Roddy McDowall singing credibly about "The Seven Deadly Virtues". Although the score doesn't quite scale the artistic heights of a Hammerstein/Rodgers musical (e. g. "Carousel", "Oklahoma", "Sound Of Music" or "South Pacific") it is still a fine example of a Broadway musical. It's truly a pity that Burton, Andrews and Goulet were not reunited for the film adaptation; I have no doubt their original Broadway production was far better than Josh Logan's filmed adaptation. The sound quality is vastly superior to the original album's.

Free Music Review: A Brilliant Magical Camelot recording
Hit: 5 Stars

This recording is absolutely brilliant! I was taken to see the show as a birthday treat when I was eleven years old, when it came to Londons West end. The cast at that time consisted of Lawrence Harvey and Elizabeth Larner, I was completely captivated by the show and as my parents bought the LP I played it for weeks afterwards singing all the songs and getting to know the complete score. I thought nothing could better Lawrence Harvey's Arthur, he had such a strong clear speaking voice and also Elizabeth Larner as Guinevere had a mischievous bell like quality to her voice, ideal for the part. Then recently I bought the broadway version and imediately fell in love with the show all over again, Richard Burton and Julie Andrews are superb! I wish they would revive the show again, in these dark times we all live in I think it is particularly poignant.

Free Music Review: What a recording!
Hit: 5 Stars

Although comparatively young to other lovers of this sort of music, I found this recording of Camelot to be excellent. Since I first heard it on LP from my parents' collection I have loved it. The performance of Richard Burton is remarkable (much like Rex Harrison in MY FAIR LADY), for he combines his excellent diction with a regal character, and he pounds out the songs beautifully. Robert Goulet is impressive as Lancelot and gives an unbeatable impression of "If Ever I Would Leave You". Although not a fan of Julie Andrews and her "sugary" voice, she sounds beautiful in this recording, and deserves plenty of praise.

This CD is a must have for anyone who is a lover of Camelot and for anyone interested - it is THE recording.

Free Music Review: Camelot(1960 Original Cast)
Hit: 5 Stars

Growing up in the late fifties and early sixties I loved this musical.Over the years I had tried to locate it and never could find it.I am so glad that Amazon was able to secure it for me. The music is clear and precise. Even thought Richard Burton is not known for his singing he still does a great job and of course this was Julie Andrews first musical and her voice is so pure and makes you tingle.Robert Goulet is excellent as Sir Lancelot and Roddie McDowell also delivers his songs in an "evil" way which is his character. This is based on the stories of King Arthur and I do not believe there is a video or DVD of this wonderful show associated with the Kennedy Presidency. Sweeping orchestration and delightful dialogue make this a winner.I give it a 5+.

Free Music Review: gorgeous recording.......
Hit: 5 Stars

CAMELOT features a beautiful score with some of the most beloved songs in the musical repertoire, written by the team of Lerner & Loewe. They include "If Ever I Would Leave You," a ballad recounting the timelessness of a love affair, though forbidden, that knows no season. The Original Broadway Cast recording features a young Julie Andrews, as Guinevere, Richard Burton, as King Arthur, and Robert Goulet, as Lancelot. The whole cast does a great job recreating the golden time of the mystical world of Camelot, filled with romantic intrigue and scheming sorcery. It's a shame that the original players couldn't have been brought to the big screen when the film version was made. This is the only remnant we have of this amazing show, at its best.
