Have read a great deal of the reviews by enthusiastic listeners, young and old, and will not add to the praise of the album or the abilities of the four musicians, individually or as a unit - shortly: I agree with you all. What I'd like to add is a comment on the rhythmic structures of the songs on this album. Many people have noticed Bobby Caldwell's fantastic drumming on this piece, but have you tried drumming along or counting the beats? Few - if any - of the songs go in square 4/4 beats, instead the music is filled with odd measures and strange rhythms. For instance, take a listen to "Mesmerization eclipse", where the band's capable of rocking it out very, VERY convincing in 7/8 (or rather in (4+3)/4) ... how many other outfits are capable of that? This simply is one of the all-time greatest rock 'n' roll records!Free Music Review: Late One Night

I was out cruising late one night (small town Main Street) when a buddy pulled up next to me screaming "You have got to come over right now and hear this record!" I was about ready to go home, but thought, well what the he** another hour won't hurt. At 6 am we stopped listening to Captain Beyond because we both had to go to work at 8. My buddy was a drummer and I am a guitar fanatic. We couldn't get enough. The rhythms and guitar layers were incredible. Not to mention the singing. I can't add any more. 30+ years later I still listen to this record (yes record!) every couple of months. Free Music Review: A Must For Your Collection

Got this cd from Amazon and all I can say is it is fantastic.To be honest I was not familiar with this band from the early 70s and came across it on the amazon site and after reading countless positive reviews took the chance and ordered thank goodness I did and thanks to all the positive reviewers here you are right this album is brilliant.The remaster sound is good and the guitarist Rhino can sure play.I must have played this cd about 10 times already and I love it.This band sound a million times better than some of the tosh thats out there today and this album was done in 1972.All in all this cd is a must for your rock collection,take the chance and buy it you will have invested in a great piece of rock history.Free Music Review: beyond 3 plus

I agree with most of the reviews here. This very underrated band's first 2 albums were master pieces of progressive rock. Kind of unusal that this band would be on a southern rock label (the Allman Brother's Capicorn label) But it just shows, how, back in the golden era of rock music, open minded the industry was compared to now. This band wouldn't even get a recording contract today. That may explain why the music industry has pretty much squashed creativity like this bands output. Their later stuff wasn't as interesting...members changed etc. But this and Suffiently Breathless (even better) are highly recommended.
