Free Music Review: Pegleg is lame

I purchased this for my Son's Birthday party, which had a Pirate theme. I was very unhappy when I listened to it. One of the reasons why I purchased it was because of the "song" Happy Birthday Chucklehead, which turned out to be spoken word. Infact the whole CD starts out with Spoken word, which at points you couldn't really hear. Some of the songs like Pirate Party even sounded Beach Boy-isk. Salty's voice was very grating, I had to skip over any of the "songs" that he was involved with. I could see the Parents twicth when they heard him.
There were a handful (earful) of songs that redeemed this CD however. Scullywagg was excellent. That song reminded me of something right out of the Great White Way, and very funny. Pieces of 8 was very catchy. The kids seem to like that one, they would hold up their mugs yelling "pieces of 8." You could actually imagine Goffery Rush singing it. Lastly the Title Song. Pegleg Tango was great. We tried to get the kids to dance like pegleg, since it was semi instructiional, and the results were hysterical.
All in all, the 3 songs were worth the purchase, however I really want to give Salty a good plucking!

This CD is pirate pop and buccaneer rock for scallywaggs of all ages. Shiver your timbers with a fanciful blend of scurvy sing-alongs and sea chanteys. Includes songs such as: Age of Buccaneers, I'm a Pirate, and What It's Really Like on a Ship.Pirate-themed kids' discs have been done before, and they generally fall into the same musical black hole that swallows up other such single-minded projects (think railroad yard music for 4-year-old train buffs, monster records and the occasional daring clown-themed disc). Pegleg Tango makes itself the exception--the treasure chest at the end of a rough voyage--and here's why: Captain Bogg, First Mate McGraw, Charlie Scuppers, and the eye-patch-wearing, plundering brigade of others who populate this disc seem to have been actual pirates before they were kids' artists. "Pieces of 8ight" is served up with enough salt to sink an iceberg, and "What it's Really Like on a Ship" invites scallywags of all ages aboard for a scurvy-skirting adventure. Some surf music washes up, a little reggae reaches the shore, and the occasional mermaid sighting is celebrated with skull-and-cross-bones-style pop harmonizing (imagine a cast of Broadway crooners cutting up with parrots on their shoulders). Bogg & Salty's crew effectively capture Captain Jack Sparrow's swagger and set it to sound; there's not a musical deck-swabber among them. --Tammy La Gorce
