Though beautifully packaged and supplied with copious liner notes, there's nothing "new" or interesting about this collection. If you have Captain & Tennille's GREATEST HITS or SCRAPBOOK, don't bother buying this. Many issued "singles" are missing from this collection, such as: "This Is Not The First Time" and "Don't Forget Me". And the album MORE THAN DANCING (released on Wizard Records)is completely ignored, despite the fact that it was recorded in the Captain & Tennille's very own recording studio, Rumbo Recorders. The sound quality of THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION is uneven. For example, "Song of Joy" sounds as if it was recorded through a paper bag. "Come In From The Rain" also seems to have suffered from a drop in quality, too.Any Captain & Tennille fan knows that the Captain & Tennille's best songs are not necessarily their "hits". Because nearly every Captain & Tennille album is out of print (and none will ever be reissued on cd), it would have been especially nice to have included some of their "burried treasure" songs on this collection. It would have been great to see the following included (instead of the same old re-tread hits available on any other C&T collection): "But I Think It's A Dream", "More Than Dancing", "Come to Me", "Mind Your Love", Happier Than The Morning Sun" and "Never Make A Move Too Soon."
This could have easily been a 2 cd collection because the Captain and Tennille have released 7 albums of original material--excluding TWENTY YEARS OF ROMANCE (4 on A&M Records (not including the Spanish version of their debut album), 2 on Casablanca Records, and 1 on Wizard Records).
The SCRAPBOOK cd is far superior to this tired and uninspired collection.
