Free Music Review: GREAT
Hit: 5 Stars

I live in Argentina, where Carly is sadly not a very well-known artist. The only song that was often played on the radio was (and still is) "you're so vain". Of course I liked that song, and I remembered the performer's name. In 1990 at a record store I found a copy of "Have you seen me lately?", and I was not sure to buy it or not, since it apparently didn't feature any familiar song. But I finally finished buying it. When I heard it for the first time, I was truly amazed. What a voice! The songs sounded in a way that was a pleasure to listen. Then recently I heard that "old" record again, and I thought how could it be that Carly Simon is largely ignored in my country. "Love is eternal" in its own right makes the record worth of buying, had it be available today... But it doesn't end all there. "Waiting at the gate" ,"Not like him", the opening track "Better not tell her" and "Fisherman's song" are high class songs, and Carly sings with a charm voice... For sure I would like to find more Carly Simon records, but they're very hard to find here. She's very much more than just "You're so vain". And this record still sounds fresh forteen years after its release. Without any doubt, a great record and a great artist. A "must have".

Free Music Review: Carly's second CD from 1990.What a great year
Hit: 5 Stars

This was Carly's second CD in 1990.The first being,"My Romance." One of the greatest albums of all time, and this tressure."Better not tell Her," was a huge adult hit, just about ready to cross over on the pop charts.I'm sure if Carly would have toured with this CD,it would have matched "Boys in the Trees." "Life is Eternal" was the second release, but radio stations thought a song about death was too depressing. What a big mistake. This is a beutifull song, and I just bet one of these days its going to have a rebirth.Carly was on David Lettermen, and sang,"Holding me Tonight." David always has Carly on when she puts out a new CD ,and is always nice to her.My favorite song on the record is the last,"We just got here." A wonderfull song about Winter taking over, and the end of summer. In away, its telling us were getting older in a nice way. Before this record came out,Carly said in a interveiw that she was going to work with Smokey Robinson on her new CD. I just wonder what happened? Look for Carly's new album,"Maidens from Manhattan," coming out May16.

Free Music Review: She's got a lot to be vain about.....
Hit: 5 Stars

A sexy album cover may help a singer sell one album, but Carly has sold a LOT of albums...Carly has long been noted for two things; really, really sexy album jackets, and wearing her heart on her sleeve. "Confessional" singers aren't to everybody's liking, but I think that this is one of her best. The voice is perfect, and, as for the jacket, may every girl look that good at 50. We all practice a double standard; I'm perfectly happy to look at somebody else's wife on a seductive album, but would raise a fuss if my wife posed for SOME of Carly's covers; here is a sexy picture that I couldn't find a real objection to if my daughter posed for it.

The music here is great, though, as I said, the "heart on sleeve" approach may a bit much for some. Carly's fans have shared a lot of pain with her down the years, but she's given much joy in return. I loved the title cut and "Life Is Eternal". Thank goodness that "Better Not Tell Her" is not about me...my wife would never believe it was all innocent. Enjoy...this one is a winner.

Free Music Review: Great light pop/rock
Hit: 5 Stars

I heard songs from this cd from late 1990 to late 1991 and I was 26 when I first heard this music so I wasn't "old" nor knew these songs were about aging but "Better Not Tell Her" was played a lot on WKST 92.1 Ellwood City, PA which played a few older songs and the newer soft rock & adult contemporary music that didn't make it to top 40 radio. It is now an oldies format. I also heard "Holding Me Tonight on 95.5 Johnstown, PA in 1991.

This recording had some great songs and was played on the radio the year before grunge and hip hop ruined music for me as an adult who was 26/27 years old at the time. Some of these songs should still be played on soft rock stations but they aren't. I thought this was a recording with some great songs and if there aren't any videos to it, they should have made one for "Better Not Tell Her"

Free Music Review: Carly breaks my heart
Hit: 5 Stars

Though "Have You Seen Me Lately" is not my favorite Carly Simon recording, it does contain some of my favorite Simon tracks. I won't list them all, but if I had to point to evidence of Simon's brilliance as both singer and songwriter, I would single out "Better Not Tell Her." At the beginning, it seems as though the woman is just letting go of a past affair, even being a bit flippant about the whole thing. This changes with the bittersweet ending. If you want to hear what heartbreak sounds like in the human voice, pay attention to the way she sings the last line, "That I still...love...you." It gave me chills the first time I heard the pain and hollowness in her voice, and it still gives me chills to this day. Those 5 words, barely sung, almost spoken, are so simple, direct and moving that they sum up everything we feel about lost loves and regrets.
