Free Music Review: Sleepy time, but nice

Carly Simon says this in her liner notes for the new CD Into White: "...probably by the first two or three tracks, it will lull you to sleep as it is meant to do." That's fair warning of what the listener is in for on the this very slow, soft, gentle collection of mostly cover songs by Carly. Besides the lullaby intentions, the CD just works well for any relaxing occasion (like a leisurely afternoon working on the computer; I'm listening to it again now...). I've always loved Ms. Simon's singing - she's one of those "sing the phone book" people for me - but be warned that these ultra-slow versions of songs take the life out of some of them. For instance, the "Devoted To You/ All I Have to Do Is Dream" meditation is very pretty, but such a dreamy and slow version DOES make me begin to feel drowsy! When you take it for what it was designed to be, though, Into White is a nice enough set of tunes, with some very good band playing and arrangements. And I enjoyed all the Mom & Son interplay between Carly and Ben.
