Free Music Notes for Reflections: Carly Simon's Greatest HitsFree Music Review: Reflect on the Glorious Journey - a Life with Carly Hit: 5 Stars
I have been a Carly Simon fan for more than thirty years. In the twists and turns of a woman's life from pre-pubescence to middle age, Carly has always been here with me.
This CD is amazing - because of the longevity of my "relationship" with Carly's artistry, I have her earlier works in old, well worn vinyl albums and hearing these remastered versions of her earliest songs just makes my heart (and voice, joining her buttery smooth tones) sing.
This is even more surprising to me, perhaps to you as well.
Her more recent offerings in this volume are exceptionally stirring. The first time I listened to "Amity" - a duet with daughter, Sally Taylor, brought me to tears.
Both the lyrics and the blending of Mother and Daughter singing leave me speechless, wordless and emotion filled.
"Like a River" about her Mother following her Mother's Death is very touching - and truth filled - and speaks to those who have lost their parents and find themselves stepping into the adult orphan stage.
In another "flowing themed" song - "Let the River Run", which I first enjoyed during "Working Girl" remains incredible on many levels. I hear the lyric "The New Jerusalem" in a completely different light post September 11.
Listening to this volume is like taking a musical journey through not only my life, but through universal adventures, trials, growth - that we all experience.
Our host, with her rich, resonant tones, stirring lyrics, and open invitation to experience life alongside her, will remain a treasure to all who experience her through this CD.
Free Music Review: The BEST of the "Best of" CDs! Hit: 5 Stars
I've got to admit that I'm not a hardcore CARLY SIMON fan. In high school, I did have her LPs "No Secrets" and the one with the song "Anticipation." I still recall all the buzz about who CARLY SIMON was singing about in "You're So Vain." It was also a song that was always on my mind because I would start singing "You're So Vain" in the shower, riding in the car with my parents, in church, etc. I'm not sure why I never purchased her other albums or CD after 1973. I have, however, been thinking about adding the "No Secrets" CD back into my music collection since I had no CARLY SIMON CDs. I had thought about adding one of her many "Best of" CDs into my collection instead of getting the "No Secrets" CD. My local music shop allows customers to listen to CDs before making a purchase. I wasn't too impressed with her "Best of" CDs. They didn't look complete and the sound quality was bad. Needless to say, I was surprised to see "Reflections." My first thought was "Another 'Best of" CD - WHY?" I began to listen to it and read the tracks on the CD case. The first thing that impressed me was the sound quality. The sound quality is smooth. The quantity and quality of songs selected for this CD is impressive. Without a doubt, this is the BEST of the "Best of CARLY SIMON" CDs. If you got to have only one CARLY SIMON CD, this would be it.
Free Music Review: The best of the best!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I can't explain what it is she does to me, but Carly Simon to me is an inspiration. She inspires the poems I write, she gets me through the most rough times in my personal life. And all becasue of the wonderful lyrics she writes.
While most people my age (I'm 25) prefer to listen to Christina, Beyonce, or J.Lo, I prefer artist like Carly and Joni Mitchell.
Last year she finally released a long awaited single greatest hits disc.
It features 20 of her biggest hits, like her first single "That's the way I've always heard it should be" (in my opinion one of the best songs EVER by any artist), her most famous song probably "You're so vain" and her huge 80's comeback hit "Coming around again". But also included are her first motion picture score "Nobody does it better", her oscar winning score "Let the river run" and most touching score "Love of my life". As well as her tributes to her mother "Like a river", Jackie Onassis "Touched by the sun" and the duet with daughter Sally Taylor "Amity".
For any beginner with Carly's music, this cd is THE way to start, and for all the Carly fans (like myself), it's just another adition to our collections, but one hell of an adition if you ask me. So, buy this cd! And let's hope that after the new "Moonligt Serenade" standards album, Carly will record a real new record, full of new stuff she wrote herself, because she's too goo to give up on that! Love you Carly!!!
Free Music Review: Stellar overview of brilliant career ... so far Hit: 5 Stars
Carly Simon is one of those incredible talents that we've had with us now for more than three decades, yet she has never received the kind of acclaim that she really deserves. For whatever reason--perhaps because she isn't a publicity machine or a diva with an outsized ego--she has never been hailed as the treasure that she is.
Perhaps this CD will help to re-focus some much-needed attention on her brilliant career. She really has created an amazing body of work. Classic songs such as "That's the Way I've Always Heard it Could Be" (with it's heartbreaking vulnerability), "You're So Vain," "Anticipation," "Haven't Got Time for the Pain," the incomparable "Nobody Does it Better," and the thrilling "Let the River Run" are among the landmark tracks included here.
Carly can do ballads, she can sing classics, she can do torch songs, she can rock, and she can break your heart. She's a chanteuse, a songbird, and a muse all rolled into one delightfully beautiful lady who never seems to age. Her voice is instantly recognizable and remains a highly effective instrument.
As you listen to this CD, it's like re-discovering many lost treasures all over again. I kept saying, "Oh, YEAH, I remember that one!" (And, you might even catch yourself singing along. Especially those Jagger-esque background vocals on "Your So Vain.")
Call me cliched, but this CD is a must-have.
Free Music Review: NOBODY DOES IT BETTER THAN CARLY SIMON Hit: 5 Stars
With an impressive career span going back toward the 70's Carly Simon has reached an impressive outpour of fans from around the world and still continues to be one of the most popular singers of the universe. This collection set titled Reflections is far more superb compared to the Best Of Carly Simon cd cause this covers nearly all of carly's most loved songs that made her a huge success in the 70'S. From touching ballads such as That's The way i always heard it should be to popular children's tunes such as Itsy Bitsy Spider from her Arista Debut Coming around again. The gospel sounding anthem Let the River Run is also included here from the Melanie Griffith film Working Girl as well as the James Bond hit Nobody Does It Better that was also used to hawk Safeway Supermarkets in the Late 90's. While this may be a fine sample of Simon's work it would have been nice to include Carly's version Of Winnie The Pooh from Disney's Piglet's Big Movie and Son Of a Gun with Janet Jackson and also from her Holiday album Pretty Paper with Willie Nelson. If you are a diehard Carly Simon Fan or just a starter like me this is a real true collection every fan must own. For more lite fare try these albums, Shirley Bassey- The Best Of Shirley Bassey, Carole King- Tapestry, Carole King- Throroughbred, Vikki Carr-It Must Be him/For Once In My life, Melissa Manchester-Melissa, Anne Murray- The Best So Far
