Free Music Notes for Reflections: Carly Simon's Greatest HitsFree Music Review: Nobody Does It Better Hit: 5 Stars
Finally, an updated single disk greatest hits from one of the premier singer/songwriters of the past 30 years. If you only need one compilation of Carly's music, this is the one to get. The major hits from 70's are here, along with the comeback hits from "Coming Around Again". Choice cuts from her stellar 90's albums "Have You Seen Me Lately" & "Letters Never Sent" round out the set, along with movie favs "Let The River Run" and "Love Of My Life". The only glaring admission - nothing from the recent "Bedroom Tapes" has been included. "Scar" would have been a welcome addition to this collection. But that's a minor quibble to say the least. All you youngsters who love Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos, Alanis Morrisette, etc. - pick up a copy of this CD and listen to where it all started.
Free Music Review: great retrospective Hit: 5 Stars
This is basically the US version of the single disc collection only available as an import ('Nobody Does It Better... the best of'). That disc includes songs like 'Angel From Montgomery' and 'Why', which are absent here probably because they didn't make a big impact in the US (and are available elsewhere)--and perhaps because they are interpretations of other songwriters; these songs are replaced by popular US hits like 'Jesse'. Like any great singer, the finest songs are not always among the hits, but this is the best place to start if you haven't got a lot of Carly Simon discs in your collection. The range over 30 years shows her maturation as an artist, and the final duet 'Amity' with her daughter Sally, now a singer herself (and who you can hear doing backup vocals on 'Jesse', about 20 years earlier) is a nice touch.
Free Music Review: ANOTHER, AND ANOTHER, HEY BUT WAIT... Hit: 5 Stars
Yes!, at least this is one Greatest Hits from Carly that it's just ONE cd and includes all her multi labels hits, I would say this is the one you have to get, you get rid of all the unnecesary tracks, and you stick with the true hits of all the three decades miss Clouds in My Coffee have been delivering music. The best Carly era was of course the 70's so here you have all the hits of that era and some xtra delights, the rest of the songs are ok, but just to listen how she grew in music. The best track as always will be are, YOU BELONG TO ME, ANTICIPATION, and the anthemic YOU'RE SO VAIN, this is Carly at her best. This collection is worth it, and not a waste of money, if you have any other collection, re-sale it and get this, cos yeah! yeah! yeah! Mockingbird is back.
Free Music Review: She's a legend in her own time. Hit: 5 Stars
Being a 32 year old guy, I don't feel like a typical "Carly Simon" fan, but somehow throughout my life I came to know most of these songs, and it's wonderful to hear them all together again here. Not only are they all great, but there's 20 of them! So many hits here, including one of my faves "Coming Around Again", "Haven't Got Time For The Pain", "Anticipation", and the huge "You're So Vain". Plus there's the duet "Mockingbird", with her ex-husband James Taylor, and "Nobody Does It Better", from the 007 film. Another track I really like is "Better Not Tell Her", and most of the rest. The booklet has a nice history, and numerous pictures too, like my favorite one from the "No Secrets" cover. I'd call this collection a must for any fan of folk, pop, and just great music.
Free Music Review: I love this CD! Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is a great mix of Carly music, and features a slew of songs- not just the usually 10-12.
It includes you're so vain, all I want is you....Carly classics.
It also feautes a duet with Lindsay Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac) that I have never heard before called Touched by the sun. It's a great song- both instrumentally and musically.
If you love Carly than it's an obvious gem. If you don't know Carly music well it's a good one to buy. It has a lot of her songs from over the years, including coming around again. Some of the songs I have not heard since I was in the backseat of my mom's buick driving around town with her. SO many of her songs are like old friends. And so, if you're new to her music it's a great CD that captures her best talent.
