Free Music Review: A Beautiful 'View'

Coming across like Kim Richey without the clever irony, Carolyn Dawn Johnson was primarily known up until this point as a songwriter. Luckily for us, she's decided to put her voice to her own compositions, and the results are pretty stellar. Starting off with the acoustic strummer 'Georgia'(ably assisted with beautiful harmonies by Martina McBride), she traverses though a fairly strong song cycle, punctuated by rockers('Just Another Girl')and ballads('You Are'), and never loses her footing. The material is first-rate, and though she's alot more pop than country, the writing is far better than what is being passed off as country(or even pop) these days. Her voice is a cross hybrid of the best aspects of Deana Carter, Sherrie Austin, and She-Daisy(!?!), of all people. Best cuts--'I'll Think Of You That Way', 'Complicated', 'I Don't Want You To Go',and the aforementioned 'You Are'. A beguiling debut, and hopefully the beginning of something big.Free Music Review: A great debut . . .can't wait to hear more

I was hooked the first time I heard "Georgia" (which was woefully underplayed on most radio stations) and knew I had to buy this CD as soon as I heard "Complicated." I've liked most of the songs she's written for other artists--and I like most of these. I think she overuses a few cliches ("Love is Always Worth the Ache" is loaded with them) but for the most part the songwriting and singing is very strong. I think just about any girl in her 20's can relate to these songs; they capture the emotions of a very complicated time in life and the things that we are going through. It's definitely worth buying, especially if you are a fan of Sara Evans, Martina McBride, or Jo Dee Messina.Free Music Review: the dawn of carolyn dawn johnson

Carolyn Dawn Johnson's debut album, Room with a View, is not as great as her follow-up "Dress Rehearsal" but it's still plenty good. It's an enjoyable country/lite rock album. The songs are pretty uncomplicated, there's no overproduction here, and Carolyn sings them well. Not a whole lot of uptempo high energy stuff. A weakness is the songs don't sound much different from each other. The better tunes on here are:

Carolyn Dawn Johnson's songs Georgia and Complicated caught my attention on the radio and led me to take the plunge on this CD. What a great move that was.Carolyn Dawn Johnson's first CD is an enjoyable collection of songs that show a range and variety that is truly remarkable. She has a beautiful voice, catch lyrics and a set of songs that will get stuck in your head. This is one CD that I've put into the CD player and it rarely leaves it. If Carolyn is the future of country music, then we are in more than capable hands.

This is a great cd if your into light pop and adult contemporary music. None of the cds sound like their country, so I don't understand why she's in the country category. My favorite songs are #5,#6 and #10. Keep in mind that the rest of the songs don't sound like the hit song "complicated."
