Free Music Notes for Casting CrownsFree Music Review: I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of Truth... Hit: 5 Stars
Wow. That about sums up what I felt when I first heard Casting Crowns. Their music is so heartfelt and passionate! My first exposure to CC was when I borrowed WOW Worship Aqua from my library, and heard their song "Who Am I". That song struck a chord with me, because it portrayed perfectly the gratitude I felt toward the Lord for showing any interest in me, the chiefest of sinners. I did some exploration, and found this CD. It is an amazing buy. I'll list the songs and briefly say what made them good.
#1. What If His People Prayed - Superb song. It is an interesting song lyrically as well as musically. I like how this song highlights the importance of going to God in prayer when you are down, and not turning to things of this world "What if the family turned to Jesus /
Stopped asking Oprah what to do" This is one of those speakers-on-MAX songs that is sure to put you in a good mood. 4.5/5
#2. If We Are The Body - Probably my 2nd favorite. This is an account of how some churches are very particular of who can be a member of the congregation, and asks why "If we are the body, why is His love not showing them there is a way?" Excellent song with an even better message. We should all pray that when a new person enters our church, we do not begin to judge them without ever meeting them. Another great song. 5/5
#3. Voice of Truth - This is my favorite song on this CD. While the first two songs of this CD are more upbeat and employ the use of more electric guitar and strong drums, this song is a nice contrast as it is more of a ballad. The lyrics are so powerful. Not that I don't like a good guitar riff, but the quieter ballad-style showcases the lyrics and the message so well. Haven't we all been in the situation where there's a giant before us on the plain of our soul telling us "You'll never win"? Then the chorus soars with "But the voice of truth tells me a different story / The voice of truth says 'Do not be afraid!' / And the voice of truth says 'This is for My glory!' / Out of all the voices calling out to me / I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth." Definitely an encouragement when you feel like the whole world is against you. 5/5
#4. Who Am I - Wow. If there was ever a song that made you want to cry, this is it. It is so humbling to consider that the God of all creation would care to know us. It aptly describes us as "a flower quickly fading / a wave tossed in the ocean / a vapor in the wind". This song continues to speak to my heart every time I listen to it. It's a wonderful blessing. 5/5
#5. American Dream - This is the other speakers-on-MAX song on this CD. It tells the story of a father trying to get his family everything they want, when all they want is more time to spend with him. It is a warning not to put too much importance on material goods that will fade away, and instead be more concerned with the state of our immortal souls. It is a wonderful song lyrically, and musically it delivers with strong guitar and drums. It drives the point home. 5/5
#6. Here I Go Again - I can relate to this song, because I've been in a situation when I've wanted to talk to a friend about Jesus, but I've been too afraid to mention it, and then they were gone from my life, and I never told them anything. This is a quieter ballad, but there are some guitar riffs. "What am I so afraid of? / Here I go again / talking about the rain..." Give us strength, Lord, to not be afraid and to boldly proclaim the message of life. 5/5
#7. Praise You With The Dance - This song sounds a bit more like the generic worship song you hear on Christian radio. Not like that's a bad thing, but it seems to veer away from the "Casting Crowns sound". However, it showcases Megan and Melodee's voices more than the other songs. While this is a nice praise song, it doesn't have the strong message the other songs have. 3.5/5
#8. Glory - Okay, while now we've gotten the "CC Sound" back, again, we're lacking a bit of a message. Another wonderful praise song, but lacking a strong message making it almost a little forgettable, but still wonderful to sing and praise our Lord with. 4/5
#9. Life of Praise - I'll tell you right now, I don't especially like this song. That is, I don't really like the verses. At the very beginning when it says "I will praise you Lord always / not just for the things you've done for me", the beat changes to... sixteenth notes it sounds like when it says "not just for". For a first-time listener, that can throw you off easily. But, the chorus is nice. Also, if you've ever wondered some of the titles that the Lord is called, listen to the chorus "For You are awesome / God of the Nations /
Lion of Judah / Rock of the Ages / Alpha, Omega" It's not a bad song, just a bit too quirky for my taste. 4/5
#10. Your Love Is Extravagant - This one is a quiet ballad, too, but it appeals to me more because I enjoy how Mark Hall and the ladies of CC harmonize so nicely. It's quiet, but it speaks about an intimate relationship with our Lord, which is what we all want. Quiet, yet loving. 4.5/5
Overall rating: 4.7/5
This is an EXCELLENT CD, and I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys Christian music with a message. If you don't buy this CD, you are missing out on a real treasure! The Lord has blessed these men and women, and they are using their gifts for his glory!
Free Music Review: Casting Crowns is awesome!! Hit: 5 Stars
I had never listened to Christian music until December 2003. It was amazing hearing all of the uplifting worship songs. There are so many good groups that I have heard, and maybe even never heard of. The group, Casting Crowns, was one of the groups I had never listened. The first song I heard from them was "If We are the Body." This song spoke the truth, and I was always excited when ever it came on the radio. I wish I would have had their CD all summer, but I got it as a surprise. My mother left me a gift everyday for the first week of college. On the last day, I opened the present with their CD in it.
Casting Crowns is a great Christian rock band that can appeal to everyone. Each song on this album talks about how God loves every person, also the struggles humans have following God. I never imaged how much I would love this CD. Every song on the CD almost seems like the song was made for me, and that is how many people would probably feel. The song, "American Dream", is almost describing every person in the world that needs God but they do not really know it.
Every song challenges Christians to be more like Christ and not to just sit around. They almost make you feel bad for not helping or sharing God's message with anyone. In the song, "If We are the Body", they are telling you that we as Christians need to reach out to others because we are not doing the work of Jesus. It shows how lazy many Christians are because they are scared or just don't know what to say. This album makes you think right away with the first song. The song says that if His people prayed the world would be a better place. Then, they go on be tell you that he still loves, you even if you have not done much and that you are not really worthy of this pure love, but He gives it to us.
Casting Crowns singers and instrumentalists are very talented and experienced. Having a female vocalist makes all their songs sound much more rich and enjoyable for all different listeners. All the other singers or instrumentalists add so much to each song because they make each song sound different to any other worship or praise song that I have heard. The lead singer for the group has a great and unique voice that makes you want to listen. He sings so strong, almost pulling you into the words and message. With every instrument, each song has a new and different sound from one to the next and makes the album much easier to go from one song to the next.
Every song has so much emotion about what they are singing. There is a song for every mood. Even songs for people who doubt their faith in God. They just want everyone to know what is true and not true in the world. You get lifted up every time you hear one of Casting Crowns songs and you begin to love the Lord even more than before. The last song leaves you knowing how much you are cared for by something more precious than you will ever know in the world.
Casting Crowns album is one not to be missed. It brings joy to anyone who listens to it. There so many types of songs for every person. They are one of the greatest worship bands that I have ever heard. Anyone who has not listened to them should, because no matter who you are, you will love at least one of the songs on the album. Casting Crowns is a growing band that will only get bigger with every new album they come out with.
Free Music Review: Awesome Group Hit: 5 Stars
When I first heard the name of the group over the radio, I thought another generic Christian Rock Group with bubble gum yelling lyrics, so I turned the radio down and continued driving. Then the chorus to "If We Are the Body" came on and I turned it up and listened. Then I heard the second verse and I was hooked. I loved that song and everytime I turned on the radio I would hope to hear that first verse. Now usually I wait to hear most of the songs on the album before buying it but I brought this album for this song. It speaks so much of the church and the problems in our daily lives that we face.
What If His People Prayed - speaks about how we go to regular humans just like us who can't do a thing for us, how we daily watch tv to drown our sorrows or turn to other means to gain acceptance comfort whatever. If we would just turn to God and pray He would bless, comfort and teach us immensly if we would only turn to him.
If We Are the Body - speaks of the Christians being God's arms, hands, feet, words, love ... sometimes we are the only contact to God some people get and we should make the most of our opportunities. Christians are often the worst at gossip and making fun of people because for some reason we think we are better than them. This song speaks directly to each and every one of our hearts.
Voice of Truth - another wonderful song. Often times we are discourage and feel we can't run this race anymore. We are bombarded with financial struggles, relationship problems, death, depression ... all these are ways to distract us from God, we can either choose to listen to them or to Listen to God, the Voice of Truth, who uplifts us and encourages us.
Who Am I - a beautiful song that expresses our inability to comprehend why God would love us and chose us to be His children. Why would he take notice of us ... but he does.
American Dream - is a fun song in music style that tells a very true story of family. We get caught up in making our homes the best in getting the best to our families that we give them our worse or nothing at all ... and in the end we loose them.
Here I Go Again - often times we sit with our friends laughing and talking about nothing imparticular. We tend to forget that there is indeed a battle going on ... and instead of bringing them closer to God, we often times are just there ... scared or frozen when who knows what will happen when they walk out the door ... will ourlives have shown them Christ or were we just too scared. I love this song. I am shy and I often times am too scared or just stand on the sidelines of life.
The next 3 songs were basic praise and worship and it took me awhile to warm up to them. I don't quite care for them lyrically, since they repeat over and over again, but I understand some people like that.
Your Love is Extravagant - a beautiful worship song ... they closed the album wonderfully. It more than made up for those three songs and tells of the extravagant and comforting love of God. It is truly beautiful and a very calming song that directs your eyes and heart to God. Great close to an awesome album.
Free Music Review: All-around winner: both the message and music Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is an absolute winner on two fronts: the message put forth and the music itself.
First of all to the message, which is ulimately the most important thing on a Christian music album. The lyrics in these songs range from thought-provoking to inspiring to worshipful. "What If His People Prayed" and "If We Are The Body" are reminders that even Christians don't always depend on God or treat people properly. "Voice Of Truth" is a wonderful song about depending on God for confidence and strength, while "Who Am I" is an emotional thanks to God for all he has done for each of us individually. "American Dream" reminds us what is really important in life (i.e., not material goods), while "Praise You With The Dance", "Glory", and "Life Of Praise" have wonderful messages of praise to God. The overall lyrical content should hit home for children and adults both, incredibly heartfelt and inspirational.
The music itself is also fantastic. I have over 500 (secular) rock music albums and have probably reviewed at least 300 of them on this site. My favorite music of it all is without a doubt melodic pop/rock that has both hard and soft elements to it. This album absolutely fits that mold musically. Songs like "What If His People Prayed" and "American Dream" are surefire rockers--electric guitars and all. "Voice Of Truth" has soaring, melodic vocals with an anthemic quality, and "Who Am I" is an amazing "power ballad" of sorts. "Here I Go Again" is a relatively mellow, very tuneful pop song. "Praise You With The Dance", with its female lead vocals almost sounds a bit like today's country/pop--very catchy. "Glory" also has a very strong beat and a cool rock vibe. "Your Love Is Extravagant" is a mellow, heartfelt song to close the album.
Bottom line: If you are a Christian who likes pop/rock music, this album is absolutely for you! An album for the ages in the Contemporary Christian genre of music. Highly recommended.
Free Music Review: Worship the way it should be Hit: 5 Stars
I will start out by saying that I am a fan of all sorts of worship music and that this may be biased, but Casting Crowns are my favorite. However, this isn't my favorite album of theirs, that would go to Lifesong. This would be tied for my second with The Altar and the Door. This is an extremely powerful record. It has changed my life in so many ways that I can hardly count them all. Here are a few examples though. First "What if His People Prayed?". This really got me thinking about outreach and evangelism, along with their hit "If We are the Body". Thinking isn't just the word I guess. It's doing. Since hearing these songs, reading the Gospel, and hearing the teachings at services, I have gotten involved in the Prison Ministry Services, County Jail Ministries, Angel Tree projects, and am proud to say that I serve on my church's Youth Ministry Team, just like each member of Casting Crowns. The next song that really impacted me is "Here I Go Again". It made me spread the Word to my brother and a very close friend of mine, just to let them know how much God cares about them. It would come from the line, "this might be my last chance to tell him that You love him, so here I go again". Beautiful. American Dream, another one of their hits, changed my life and the life of one of my good friends. It allowed me to give up the bottle and spend time where it really matters, with family and with God. It also helped out my best friend who was addicted to money and a workaholic do the same thing. "I'll take a shack on The Rock, over a castle made of sand". These guys not only rock, but they spread His word, and change people's lives. If you don't have this record, get it. If you don't understand it, read into it and read into your Bible. Peace and Love.
