I am one of those people that LOVES Christmas music, but I'm not big into Christian music like Newsboys or Casting Crowns or 3rd Day although I do like several of their songs, etc. It's not so much the message of Christian music because I do appreciate the message...it's more of the music...it normally doesn't fit my taste musically. I try to buy at least one Christmas CD (Christian or secular) every year. This year it was Casting Crowns and Enya.
At first I wasn't sure about "Peace on Earth," but it's grown on me. I love, love, love "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day." I listened to it all the way to work yesterday (and I have about a 30 minute commute). The song has a wonderful message. If you go to the Casting Crowns website, there is a video about how the song was written. Having watched that video, the message is so much deeper. It's just beautiful. I especially like how the children singing "peace on earth" represents the bells ringing, like the bells are speaking to us.
"O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" is a beautiful instrumental piece. Listening to that song, I can just picture that star in the clear, cold night sky and the fear at first, then the bewilderment and excitement the shepherds felt when the angels in all their glory appeared to them.
I do enjoy some songs on this CD more than others, but overall, this is a great CD. It's worth the purchase. And, it's definitely worth giving as a gift to someone else.
