Free Music Notes for Tea for the TillermanFree Music Review: Avoid "Cat Steven's Greatest Hits" at all costs Hit: 5 Stars
In general, I think Greatest Hits albums are to be avoided, and nowhere is that more true than with Cat Stevens. "Tillerman" and "Teaser and the Firecat" beg to be listened to in their original form. Otherwise, you'd miss "Sad Lisa" and "Miles From Nowhere".
Other than that, what can I add to what's already been said? Truly a landmark album, and one of the most sonically important albums of the era. Want a real treat? Pick up a copy on 180g vinyl; pure magic.
Free Music Review: A Masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
I can't add much to the other reviews, except to agree that, yes, this is Mr. Steven's definitive masterwork. This has definitely stood the test of time. As a philosophy major, I can't agree with his narrow religious fanaticism, but his early works show an open-minded seeker with a gift for inspired lyrics and great music. I would also recommend Teaser and the Firecat, along with some great works of literature such as Rushdie's The Satanic Verses, and Why I Am Not A Muslim.
Free Music Review: Cat's Tongue Hit: 5 Stars
When the album was produced Cat was bantering with Hal Ashby about which numbers could be included in the movie "Harold and Maude" (Bud Cort & Ruth Gordan)...He eventually recorded the most memorable rendition of poetic lyrics to be backdropped into an obvious antisocial medium. The movie and album became an anthem for many of us. There was never a soundtrack for the film so those of us who enjoyed the visual rely upon this inspiring collection.
Free Music Review: Stevens at his Best! Hit: 5 Stars
A classic album that defined the way Stevens feels about mankind vs. nature. This is my favorite Cat Stevens album. If you enjoy this album - the next closest thing is "Teaser and the Firecat." Check out the tracks "Where Do The Children Play", "Wild World", "Miles From Nowhere" and "Father And Son." Father and Son is my absolute favorite and is alone worth the price of the album. Enjoy this album!
