Free Music Review: uplifting to the spirit, timeless
Hit: 5 Stars

I grew up postpunk in the 80s and Cat Stevens was 'king of the hippies'. As such, a pariah. A girlfriend said I would love CS if I gave him a chance (so close to the Smiths really). Only took 10 years, but I did after hearing track 1 'The Wind' on a dreary night. Written before I was born, but timeless.

He rode the early 60s wave of Brit singer-songwriters, but was sharply criticized for not becoming political or complex.

His contemporaries just missed the point. There is a big difference between childish and childlike. In his simplicity, he expressed the full range of rhapsodic joy and deepest melancholy. Supposedly, he gave his wealth away, converting to Islam, in the news often during Middle East conflict.

'Peace Train' may sound quaint now, but you can hear in his voice, that at one point in time, people really felt this way. That this was possible. And somehow that is sad now, that we have outgrown these thoughts. 'Moonshadow' and 'Morning has Broken' are almost lullabies.

Writing about the catharsis in his songs is 'like dancing about architecture'. Luckily, you have to listen just once to understand what makes them great.

Free Music Review: One Of Stevens' Best
Hit: 5 Stars

"Teaser And The Firecat" was my first Cat Stevens album, and undoubtedly one of his best. This was the album which made him a household name in many parts of the world, and is also one of Stevens' most accessible albums, and there are a number of excellent songs. "Moonshadow", "Morning Has Broken"(I remember singing this one in school assembly when I was a nipper) and the calypso-flavoured "Peace Train"(one of Steven' best songs) were the obvious hits, and are among the songs that most new Cat fans like the most. Much of the lesser known stuff on the album equals the greatness of the aforementioned songs. "How Can I Tell You" is an overlooked masterpiece, and a very beautiful song to boot. "Rubylove" is a nice little folk song with a Greek flavour (Stevens even sings a few verses in Greek). "The Wind", although brief, is another excellent folk tune. "Bitterblue" and "Tuesday's Dead" are both fairly upbeat and catchy pop/rock numbers.

If you're a new Cat Stevens fan, this is a worthy first purchase, and although it may not be as perfect as Stevens' masterpiece "Tea For The Tillerman", it is nevertheless a superb album.

Free Music Review: Fantastic
Hit: 5 Stars

Cat Stevens was one of the most popular singer and songwriters of 1970's. Almost every album he relesed between 1970 and 1975 went to the top of charts and even had a string of #1 songs including "Peace Train" which is included on this album. I love "Teaser and The Firecat" it is one of my favorites albums from this very talented and gifted performer who retired way too early from the music industry and converted himself into a buddist who I believe now lives somwhere in the Middle East. "If I Laugh" and "Bitterblue" are two of my favorite songs on this album and "Changes" is very good also. This is was a landmark album in Cat Stevens brief but successful career, come to think of it I think is one of his best albums ever next to another great one called "Tea For The Tillerman" I love the covers on both these albums. I don't know about "Tea For The Tillerman" but I do know that he thought of the concept and actually drew the cover for "Teaser and The Firecat". A man of many talents he was not only a fine musician but a very good artist as well. This album is FANTASTIC and I'm glad I found it on CD.

Free Music Review: The purpose of music
Hit: 5 Stars

I recently heard an events promotor interviewed. When asked why we keep bringing song artists from the 60's & 70"s back he said - "because these people can still fill the big venues - yes, there are younger artists producing good songs but not enough producing a whole lot of good songs".
Some how Cat Stevens was not part of my adolescence [yes that is true] so when I saw a documentary on Josuf islam in which some of his music was featured the tunes were appealing and the lyrics interested me. I bought two albums - one of which is Teaser and the Firecat.
Marcia Hines [Australian music icon and Australian Idol judge] says - "the purpose of music is to inspire and uplift people" - well this album is inspirational - the lyrics are even more valid today than they were then. I have no doubt should Cat/Josuf ever choose to tour again - he would fill those big venues - three times over - all over the world. In the meantime we have the recording.

Free Music Review: Thank you, Amazon.com Reviewers!! Great album!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Up until a couple of weeks ago, the only Cat Stevens CD that I ever owned/heard was his Greatest Hits. Don't get me wrong - it is a wonderful compilation, but there are only so many times one can listen to the same songs over and over again. I assumed those were his only good songs, as I usually find with many other greatest hits albums. I stumbled upon this listing, saw how people were raving about this album, and decided to purchase it. All I can say is THANK YOU to all of the reviewers for convincing me to make this purchase! I now know that Cat Stevens' musical greatness extends beyond his Greatest Hits album.

This album is WONDERFUL. I can't stop listening to it. I highly suggest listening to it through headphones...the drum rhythms are great, and some of the songs have really cool sounds and vocals sewn into the melody that will surprise you! Please do not hesitate to purchase this CD (this time you'll be thanking me for it!). ENJOY!
