Free Music Review: One of the Best Albums of the 1970's
Hit: 5 Stars

Teaser and the Firecat is not only Cat Steven's best studio LP, but it also ranks as one of the very best albums produced in the 1970's! Teaser captures the folk/pop moods of the singer/songwriters that were so popular in the early 1970's. Every track on this LP is a gem. My personal favorites are "How Can I Tell You", and "Bitterblue", as well as the three top ten singles released from the LP ("Morning Has Broken", "Moonshadow", and "Peace Train"), but EVERY song on this CD is great.

The reissue and remastering of this CD only improves the quality that much more - I rank this CD 6 Stars on a scale of 1-5 (that should indicate how good I think it is).

If you like the moods of the early 1970's singer/songwriters ... Get this CD and you'll discover that Cat was the best of the lot!

Free Music Review: Start With the Cover When Judging This Album
Hit: 5 Stars

I think I have every album ever made by Cat Stevens, and this is one of my two favorites. (The cover is Stevens' own work: before Cat Stevens decided to try his hand at professional musicianship, he was in art school.) "If I Laugh" and "How Can I Tell You" are among the most heart-rending songs in my family's extensive music collection. (IMO, few musicians do the empty-heartsick-lonely thang as well as Cat Stevens.) "Tuesday's Dead," with full, fun, upbeat instrumentation, is probably the most upbeat song on the album - along with "Ruby Love," a hat-tip to Stevens' Greek roots. If you like Cat Stevens but don't have any of his albums, this is a good one to start with. Along with the songs I've mentioned, it features three hits you'll surely recognize ("Morning Has Broken," "Moonshadow" and "Peace Train").

Free Music Review: HIS BEST ALBUM
Hit: 5 Stars

This legendary album contains at least four classics: Rubylove with its prominent bouzouki and verses sung in Greek is atmospheric and beautiful; Morning Has Broken sounds like a medieval hymn, a gentle lilting ballad with spiritual undertones; Moonshadow is a moving and melodic love song, while Peace Train, though less immediate, will grow on you. I don't know if Cat Stevens can be considered a "heavyweight" in the singer/songwriter genre, but he certainly reached a creative peak with these beautiful compositions. Never quite as melancholy as Nick Drake, nor as psychedelic as Donovan, Stevens touched all the right chords here with these simple but timeless songs, the sparse backing and his lovely vocals. This is definitely his best album and the music has stood the test of time very well.

Free Music Review: Cat's finest!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

OK, it's a tough choice between Teaser and the Firecat and Tea for the Tillerman, but if I could only bring one to a desert island it would be this one. First of all, unlike many people, I love Changes IV and Bitterblue, as sheer sound if nothing else, with Cat's voice and guitar taking on an edge and grittiness that are compelling. I have always found Tuesday's Dead intriguing lyrically, its meaning is totally elusive, yet it somehow grabs your attention. The two big hits on the album, Peace Train and Moonshadow, are classics of the genre, How Can I Tell You is a very underrated peaceful ballad, and the remaining songs are fine too. One final note, the remastered sound on this CD is incredible, crystal clear but without that harsh digital edge.

Free Music Review: Teaser and the firecat
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the best Cat Stevens origional albumn. Every song on Teaser and the Firecat, have the few popular tracks to satisfy the not so knowledgable Cat fan as well as many more tracks that are a little more obscure and satisfy the abid fan. All in all, not one song on this album is to be skipped over. Cat expresses how eclectic of a song writer he really is with this album by including feel good songs with sorrowful love songs and policically charged song, giving everyone the true experience they are looking for when putting on a CD. I advocate that this is Cats Best Solo album in all!!!!
