Free Music Review: A Solid Release w/ an Interesting Sound

After only a few seconds into every song on this album you feel like something big is about to happen & for the most part thats accomplished, in metalcore terms that normally means lots of screaming and thrasing...but thats not always the case, the buildup (or progression is the key here)....this album reminds me a lot of Chiodos - "All's Well That Ends Well" on a smaller scale (the intro is rediculously to short @ only 8 secs, & counting it as a track I feel robbed)- although the difference here is that Catherine has really put polish on the buildup in these songs...seriously....nearly half the songs on the album lead into the next song....I really love that about this album...& although it only runs at only a little more than half and hr. from start to finish I thought that I was listening to an EP at first because of how certain songs progress, there is a certain intensity which goes with each song...not to dog on the genre (but most metal is typically not much different or deep for that matter, than most genres, for example: u can only do so much w/ it) although I give it the benefit of the doubt, i'm sure many would argue otherwise....but I feel like the genre has to go "somewhere", seriously, so much metal is starting to sound "to much alike", normally in this genre u can follow the rules and sound the same, or break away from it all and expand...most metalcore bands think this means to do away w/ screaming, i.e. Still Remains...but a better example would be Underoath...anyway, this album is a brief attempt at expanding the genre...
Sadly, my only compliant here is that they couldve done sooooo much more w/ what they were working with....the depth and different modes range from eleborate metal to sounding electronic at times "To Be Specific" - I wouldve loved to see more of this, the first 30 sec.s of "To Be Specific" left me wanting more, & thats what this album comes down to...a metalcore gem thats worth a well deserved look if your into the genre...
