Free Music Review: What? Scary? Are you kidding? Hit: 5 Stars
Cats is a wonderful, beautiful, thoroughly entertaining example of what musical theater has to offer. The thousands of people who have seen it over the last 20 something years can probably testify to that. I can't believe anyone would describe it as scary or less than entertaining. Those people need to stick to Scooby Doo and Sponge Bob for their "entertainment." I took my 6 year old son to see it live and he sat riveted to his seat the entire time and didn't want to leave the theater. We bought the DVD which he watched (along with his 2 year old brother) every day for the longest time. It was cool to hear them singing the songs. My 2 year old would bust out with "....jellicle cats come out tonight...jellicle cats come out tonight" really cute! So, I bought the CD to play in the car. I'm really glad they enjoyed Cats as much as I did.
Free Music Review: Its phenomenal but the video is better. Hit: 5 Stars
The "Cats" CD is wonderful! Although it is done by the American Broadway Cast it still highlights the primary essence of the orginal British version. A plus to the CD unlike the video, is that the CD has the song "Growltigers Last Stand" which was not in the video version due to the actor portraying Gus the Theater Cat (Sir John Mills was unable to physically perform the dance movements required for the song and it was omitted from the video). If you saw the video first before listening to the CD you will note the absence of the precise British accents that made the lyrics so crisp and unmuddled. Overall the CD is an added enjoyment to the entire "Cats" experience.
Free Music Review: This is how you address a cat. Hit: 5 Stars
Few musicals divide audiences as much as this one, but I think this is a great CD. Though it isn't complete--one full song, and some significant portions of dance music aren't included--it is a marvelous representation of the show. The music feels perfectly matched with T.S. Eliot's poems, and allows their childlike lightheartedness and fun to shine through. Betty Buckley's rendition of the show's most famous song, "Memory," is still unmatched in my opinion. The cast is wonderful straight across the board, but with Betty Buckley giving the show's most famous song, "Memory" what remains its best performance ever, how can you not have Cats in your cast recording library?
Free Music Review: The Greatest Musical! Hit: 5 Stars
It's amazing how this afternoon, I started listening to the CD again (for the umpteenth time this month..) and I found my way here to search for Cats products. Personally, I think this is one of the greatest soundtracks of all time. I loved each and every song, and Grizzabella's and Old Deutoronomy's songs bring tears to my eyes. The only thing that was upsetting is that the Rumpus Cat and the Pekes and Pollicles weren't on it. That wasn't good. I liked them, too. I had saw the play a few years ago as my 7th Birthday present. There's a long story connected to that that would take up to much time, so overall, this was a highly enjoyable CD and I'm glad I spent my money.
