A lot of early Sepultura fans were put off by Soulfly's first few releases, and to a certain extent, this is understandable. Max took the hip-hop / nu-metal element he first started exploring on "Roots" even further, and while still a heavy band, Soulfly left old-school fans wanting more, especially once it became apparent (by the early 2000's) that "phase" of hard rock / metal had more than run its course.
Starting w/ Soulfly's 4th album (Prophecy), it became obvious that Max was starting to lean more towards an older "thrashier" style and this was pushed even further with "Dark Ages" (my favorite Soulfly album). Now he has reunited w/ Igor and "Inflikted" is the result...
I have not stopped listening to this cd since I got it; it rivals Disfear's "Live the Storm" for album of the year. Make no mistake, this is brutal, balls-to-the-wall thrash that doesn't let up for a moment over 11 songs. No tribal beats, no "jumpdaf*ckup", no guest cameos from Fred Durst (blechh); just walls of heavy guitars, lightning fast drumming from Igor and Max's trademark bark. 'Nuff?
PS - the import version comes with 2 bonus songs, "In Conspiracy" (a decent, non-album track) and a cover of Possessed's "The Exorcist" that scorches Cannibal Corpse's version (IMO).
