Free Music Notes for Cecilia Bartoli - If You Love Me (Se tu m'ami ), 18th-Century Italian Songs

Free Music Review: Stunning talent
Hit: 5 Stars

Bartoli should really receive all the credit here for bringing these songs to life. It isn't just the beautiful vocal tone that impresses, but her probing interpretation into the meaning these songs have. It is almost as if I have to stop my cd player after each song just to digest what I have just heard because there is so much emotion, drama, and dynamic intensity througout. My favorites are "Caro mio ben" (which is easily butchered, but sounds so fresh in Bartoli's hands) and "Gia sole dal Gange" to name just a couple. I like most everything Bartoli has done, but this is a very special disc.

Free Music Review: A Triumph for the Yellow Book!
Hit: 5 Stars

This delightful recording is an inspiration to young singers everywhere. I am an 18-year old soprano with high aspirations of someday becoming a great operatic performer, but I know that many years of tedious vocal training lie ahead before I can live my dream. Therefore, I am confined to the yellow book. On recommendation from a vocal teacher I had once, I purchased this CD. It is so awesome! Cecilia shows us that this repertoire does not have to be dull. In fact, this repertoire can be interpreted with as much depth, artistry and sheer passion as opera itself. I will never look down on that yellow book again! Thank you, Cecilia--you have made my long journey to becoming a great artist alot more enlightening!

Free Music Review: We DO love Cecilia!
Hit: 5 Stars

Titled "Se tu m'ami," the song of Parisotti (although formerly attributed to Pergolesi) which literally means (If you love me), this album recorded in 1990-91 (published 1992) is quite complete. A vast collection of songs and arias from the 18th century (called arie antiche) Cecilia is dazzling perfection. Especially enjoyable is Paisiello's "Il mio ben quando verra" and Caccini's "Tu ch'hai le penne, amore." Not to be forgotten the Vivaldi, "Sposa son disprezzata." And the album's "title" song, "Se tu m'ami?" Perfect! There are so many others. Virtually EVERY song is a familiar favorite. It is a must have!

Free Music Review: Students studying voice should order this one right away!
Hit: 5 Stars

Cecilia does a gorgeous job in demonstrating the proper pronuciation of the Italian language; she is a native of Rome! Her interpretations are wonderful, probably because she actually knows what she is singing about! This album contains recordings for most of the songs in the "Twenty-four Italian Songs and Arias" book. The recordings are most helpful when trying to learn the music and correct pronuciation.
