Free Music Review: Southern fried funk with no fat (Good for the heart)
Hit: 4 Stars

Just based on his past cameos and work within Goodie Mob and Outkast (of the mighty Dungeon Family), I placed an order for a vinyl copy of this amazing piece of work six weeks pre-release date. Mmmm, yes. EXACTLY what I needed to satiate that thirst for great soul music. From the beginning (t)humps of 'Bad Mutha', with the child-like whoops 'You think you bad...' calling in the refrain, you know you are in for a ride of bass heavy licks, crotch-grabbin' kicks and the craziest church-bred vocal riffs heard this side of the Millenium. I am also a fan of rock, gospel and funk, and for an artist to effortlessly pull off the whole spectrum of these black music flavors with cheekiness and a garguantuan dose of the humble is no mean feat. Many may think it strange his constant calls of 'rock' replied with 'roll' throughout the album, but believe it or not this IS a rock album. It is rebellious, personal, danceable and proud of its southern, spiritual and Black heritage and life - joys and mistakes both. He can jam limo-long words without sounding pretentious on 'Big Ole Words', give 'God to an athiest' on 'Microhard', 'Follow Me' and 'Young Man (Sierra's Song)', and make me cry like a baby from the sheer honesty of 'Gettin' Grown' and 'Country Love' from that blessed throat of his. Gentle and hard, cocky and sweet. Unfortunately 'Spend a night in your mind' is missing from the vinyl release so I have to splurge (when I can afford) on the CD because music costs [...] a pop this side of the Pacific. Man, now all he has to do is blow up so there is a possibility he may tour Australia (very few artists do). If not, than I'll see you in Atlanta two years from now!! Gorgeous album - good on you Sir Green!!

Oh yeah - I also love the southern Baron vibes on the cover picture. Keep on stylin' ;P

Free Music Review: Imperfectly Perfect!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

From the beginning, Cee-Lo's offering of "Perfect Imperfections" seizes you by your ear drums, contentedly inducing such reactions as the bobbing of your head, the uncontrollable tapping of your feet and a desire to increase the volume level to reign in the full effect. In short, Cee-Lo's album is an eclectic mixture of funk, flow, finesse and fire. He is as gifted in his wordplay as he is in his creativity. Whatever you want in an album, he seems to have. It is filled with interludes that succinctly show his dilemma in dealing with souls who seek to box him into a specific category/genre. Cee-Lo triumphs, giving you lyrical wizardry in the songs "Big Ole Words (Damn)", "One for the Road" and "Microhard". Are you thirsty for some down-home reared-in-the-church singing? Then check out "Spend the Night in Your Mind" and "Country Love". If your pallet is still left unsatisfied after this, you have other delicacies by which you may try on this album. "Basehead Jazz" is a threnody that is saturated with the wailings of a trumpet (an instrument heard in a great many of the songs) that, though largely unspoken, makes its presence felt in an artistically melancholy fashion. I, myself have a lot of favorite songs on the album, but the song getting the heaviest rotation is "Under tha Influence (Follow Me)", a song that begins with the phrase "I'm going crazy; Would you like to come with me?" What's not to like on this album? Nothing. Although its not the greatest album ever, it us truly perfect, imperfectly.

"Today's music is the Matrix, and the real rhythm is in the red pill."
-Cee-lo, "Microhard"

Free Music Review: Best rap/hip-hop/soul recording of the year!
Hit: 5 Stars

I never considered myself a big fan of the rap genre, but Cee-Lo successfully changed my mind and outlook. This guy is a true talent, a diamond in the rough of the industry. He isn't "bling bling" and he doesn't care about rapping about violence and all that gangsta crap. Cee-Lo has made a recording here chock full of diverse sounds. You can find rock guitar, jazz saxophones, marimbas, FUNKY percussion, soulful singing, and dead-on rhythmatic rhyming. The videos for his two singles (Closet Freak and Gettin' Grown) are incredible to boot. Both are visually stimulating with quite a bit of psychedelia. Cee-Lo is what the mainstream rap world needed bad. He is honest, talented, and doesn't care what other people think. Highlights: Bad Mutha, Big Ole Words, Spend the night in your mind, Base Head Jazz, Country Love. Get it!

Free Music Review: FUNK + Lyrical content = a damn good c.d.
Hit: 5 Stars

Today's music is constantly being label with "pop". If it's not "pop-rock" or "pop-rap" the mainstream audiences are left in the dark when it comes to good quality music. Cee-lo's album takes us on an emotional ride through his post Goodie Mobb era. He brings back music to it's original form with some good ole' funk. Not only is his c.d. laced with toe-tappin' groovy beats but when you add cee-lo's dynamic lyrical skills you get "a damn good c.d." If you ever get tired of hearing about "bling-bling" this and "bling-bling" that--free your mind and give a listen to the wonderful sounds of Mr. Cee-lo Green!
Favorite Tracks:
Big ole words(damn)- lyrical genius
Country Love- soothing love song
Great Pretender- wonderful rebutal against haters
Under the influence- best song
Spend a night in your mind- "caress your consciousness" listen and you'll know what I mean

Free Music Review: Let him take you on a fonkey ride! All around the world!
Hit: 4 Stars

Cee Lo wrote and produced all the songs on this wonderful album. I categorize it with Digable Planets and Outkast's debut as albums that will change the sonic menu for hiphop records. After this album, more so called rappers will be singing like they Donny Hathaway but I doubt if they have the worldly wisdom and the courage to fly that Cee Lo has. This is one of the years best, definitely bump this joint in your bucket. The sure shot hits are Closet Freak, One for the Road and Follow Me.
