Free Music Notes for Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect ImperfectionsFree Music Review: PROOF THAT DIFFERENT ISN'T ALWAYS GOOD Hit: 1 StarsCee-lo was cool in the Goodie MoB with his righteous soulful growl but he can't hold his own with his own album. This album is overexperimental, overproduced, and corny.Cee-lo tries to be some big, electic, righteous musical voice BUT he's NOT.In fact,he sounds downright goofy. And this albums' singles single:"Closet Freak" and "Gettin' Grown" sound like comedy records. And what's up with the cheesy, oddball videos? Man,oh,man,it's a sad day when even mainstream rap artists try to be innovative but still come out shortchanged.
Free Music Review: been waiting for this kind of record for awhile Hit: 5 StarsThis album is a funk record. I dont know how else to put it. It has its hip hop/rap moments, but it mainly sounds like somethign that stevie wonder or pariliament funk would have done in 2002. I think Cee-Lo is a musical genius on this record, as he brilliantly mixes horns, whistles, and other great instruments not often used on modern rhythm and blues records and makes it sound great. there is tons of variety on this record and his beats and hooks he uses are nothing short of irresistable. ive been waiting for this kind of record for a long time. one that is technically a rhythm/rap record, but sounds even funkier than outkast at some times. if the ever brillaint/eclectic outkast is your favorite rap group this is a must. If you havent heard closet freak yet, hear it somewhere. it sounds alot like a 70's earth wind and fire, or pariliament funk song. some other songs like "gettin grown" and "el dorado sunrise (super chicken)" are great tracks with great hooks. he doesnt address any uncrossed issues, and the lyrics arent the greatest ever, but with 21 tracks and about 73 minutes of music, this cd is a must buy. highly reccomended.
Free Music Review: Pleasantly surprised Hit: 5 StarsI bought this CD based MTV video of "Closet freak". Cee-lo is full of surprises. He raps, rhymes and sings. All in a funky background. What surprises me the most is the "spiritual" vibe in some of the tracks. Lines like "you got learn to live before you die" from track "Live(Right now)" and the track "Under the influence(Follow me)" are surprisingly haunting especially if you're in a spriritual mood.
Free Music Review: bad bad cd Hit: 1 Starsdon't by this cd it's one of the worset cds i have ever bought in my life
Free Music Review: Good(ie) Album but not quite Perfect. Hit: 4 StarsThe Dungeon Family members have on the whole shown themselves to be remarkably consistent, Cee-Lo's solo debut is no exception.Drenched in P-Funk influence Cee-Lo provides a mixture of rapid fire rapping and soulful sung vocal. This mixture is a worthy sequel to Dungeon Family's group effort LP of last year. I prefer "Even In Darkness" but the more instrumental and soulful vibe found here is equally welcome. Among my favourite tracks would be "Closet Freak", "Live (Right Now)", "El Dorado Sunrise (Super Chicken)", and "Gettin' Grown" but there are no real standouts as the overall concept remains solid. Perhaps the general hip-hop fan should try before they buy but if you dig The Dungeon Family you know what to expect and will enjoy this.
