Free Music Review: We Don't Change...Celine...you're still the best!

I have known the great wonders of la Celine Dion since I was a little tot listening to the BEAUTY AND THE BEAST SOUNDTRACK. Little did I know as a 5-year old that that voice would be the passion of my life.
It wasn't till the sucess of FALLING INTO YOU that I was officially a Celine Dion fan, I was a fan of the great Barbra Streisand and I finally found out how sensational Celine Dion was. I regret that I didn't see it before, but, one again, I was a youngin'.
I discovered Celine's french career while she was on her little hiatus after the release of ALL THE WAY...A DECADE OF SONG. It was an excellent chance to explore the old Celine Dion material, that I would soon learn to love more than her already brilliant English work.
So, I took French in high school and wanted to learn the language of these beautiful songs, which was the best decision of my life. I am now on the road to become a french teacher and translator. Celine played a minor role, don't you think?
I was wondering when the time would come to release a complete BEST OF of Celine's french work, and 2005 was an excellent time to look back and reflect.
Even as a young girl Celine had the voice of an angel, a voice unlike any other. Her old songs are beautiful, the songs of Eddy Marnay were perfect for Celine and they remain some of her best songs today. Nothing is better for a teenager to hear (and adults) songs about coming to age and falling in love. Nothing is better than songs such as "D'amour ou d'amitié" or the classic "Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi."
My favorite era in Celine's french career is the 1987 INCOGNITO era. For some reason this era makes me the happiest. Nothing compares to the gorgeous song "Lolita (trop jeune pour aimer)" and "Partout je te vois". I absolutely love them.
Unfortunately not every single song can't be included on such a collection. I am surprised that the gorgeous "C'est pour toi" or "Comment t'aimer" weren't included on this set.
The rest of Celine's career is JUST as fascinating. The DION CHANTE PLAMONDON era is pure genious. The song "Le Blues du Buisnessman" remains one of Celine's best songs (and most understandable for American audiences!)to date. "Ziggy" means a lot to many as well.
The D'EUX (or terribly titled "The French Album") era was also genious. Jean-Jacques Goldman is perfect for Celine, so perfect that they got together for another classic S'IL SUFFISAIT D'AIMER.
And Celine's last album "1 FILLE & 4 TYPES" is a classic. Totally different from Celine's other work, and the singles from this album are magical. "Contre Nature" is now one if my most favorite Celine songs. And "Et, Je t'aime encore" brings back many memories that we all can relate to.
The new songs "Je ne vous oublie pas", "Tous les secrets", and "I Believe In You" are fantastic. They all deserve to be singles, Celine has not lost her touch one bit. Her voice is at it's best.
What's in store for Celine? As long as she records, she will be adored by her millions of fans. I stand by Celine all the way, and I look forward to anything she has to offer. If she should retire I would go into hiding, myself, until she came back! (I'm really not that dramatic).

The double-disc collection is filled with songs spanning her incredibly successful career; with liner notes (written solely in French) that talk about how Céline spent many years learning her craft from respected singer-songwriters who took a young chanteuse under their wings, from Luc Plamondon to Jean-Jacques Goldman. Aside from the previously released tracks, which include her bubbly hit "Je Danse Dans Ma Tête," the emotive "Ziggy," and the beautiful "Sous Le Vent," a duet with French sensation Garou there are three new tunes to entice fans. Only one is in English, the opera-meets-Titanic sounding "I Believe in You," a duet with Il Divo; the remaining two are the understated "Je Ne Vous Oublie Pas" and "Tous Les Secrets," a song about unconditional love. The one element that is frustratingly absent is the lack of information about the individual tracks in the liner notes: Nowhere is there a year of release for each of the 36 songs, nor a story about each song's history.
