Free Music Notes for Taking ChancesFree Music Review: Celine Dion Taking Chances Hit: 5 StarsI love Celine Dion's style of singing. I heard the new CD had a little different style and there was a song that she always wanted to record...but never matched the rest of her other albums. I've played it over and over. It was everything I had imagined and more. She never disappoints when she sings!
Free Music Review: No chances are taken here! Hit: 1 StarsCeline just ripped off Kelly Clarkson's and Ashlee Simpson's glossy, vanilla pop-rock style. And cover a cheesy, mainstream 80s power ballad that was already made popular again by an American Idol contestant. It would have been amazing if she had experimented with reggae, dub, punk, metal, rap, techno, folk, etc--and did it right. The only slightly risky thing she's ever done was cover AC/DC's "Shook Me All Night Long", and she ended up making a fool of herself.
Free Music Review: She took chances...and lost! Hit: 1 StarsSo VERY disappointed! Have been a Celine fan for many years but this CD doesn't allow the special beauty her voice has, to blossom forth. It is harsh, brittle and somewhat angry. The exact opposite of her musical gift. In past songs she could make powerful, spine-tingling crescendos, but she didn't sound angry about it. So sad she has become harsh as she moves through life.
Such a shame for such a talented gal!
Free Music Review: In all sincerity, WHAT HAPPENED? Hit: 1 StarsI'm only asking this question because I thought this change in style was more startling than anything Celine ever did. Just about everything she did between 'Unison' and 'A New Day Has Come' was a gem, but after that she began working and holding gigs in Las Vegas, as we all know. Since then, her sound has changed considerably, though 'One Heart,' 'Live in Las Vegas,' and 'Miracle' weren't bad. However, this album seems to be a gamble that doesn't quite hit the jackpot for her.
The whole style of this album is a mainstream rock sound that might startle many people who've been Celine fans all along, and who prefer her old style (like me). Having said that, I must say almost none of the songs here impressed me very much. The only ones that did were ' Taking Chances,' 'Eyes on Me,' and 'A World to Believe In.' While none of these songs blew me away like 'Because You Loved Me' and 'My Heart Will Go On,' those songs are fine enough for me.
The rest of the album just doesn't live up to critical expectations, and I don't blame a lot of Celine fans for being disappointed in it. I bought this after 'Complete Best,' an album she released only in Japan in 2008, and I thought that was better, needless to say, than this.
I only hope future releases will bring back the Celine we knew before, lest she risk being banished to 'Has-Been Land' like J. Lo, Britney, and the like. Until then, at least we still have her earlier and other good quality recordings.
Free Music Review: She is really taking her chances on this one. Hit: 4 StarsI really like the first 8 songs of this cd. So that's good enough for me even though the rest are fillers. The songs on this cd are not the typical radio hit celine is used to release but they are pretty good. My only complain on this album is that Celine changes the tone of her voice on this album and her voice doesn't sound as powerful as it does on hits such as the power of love or some of her earlier hits. Still i think this album compared to the crap on radio today. An excellent new CD is MADONNA'S hard candy. Highly recommended.
