Free Music Review: Celtic Thunder - Not Celtic Woman, but still good Hit: 4 StarsAs a big fan of Celtic Woman, I hoped Celtic Thunder would equal the musicality and feel. It's close, but the orchestrations and arrangements don't come up to the same level. The guys sound great, although the selections indicate a stronger interest in testosterone than melody. "Heartland", "Steal Away", and "Ireland's Call" are the strongest tracks. George Donaldson's "The Voyage" is great. Keith Harkin's songs are really pleasant. The young Damian McGinty is really impressive. His song "Come By the Hills" shines through a less than strong arrangement. Damian's "Puppy Love" was cute and I'm sure women go nuts for it, but I would have rather heard him do something else. In short, I like this album on its own as long as I don't try to compare it to Celtic Woman.
Free Music Review: Unbelievable! Hit: 5 StarsI dont care that this CD didnt have the entire program I saw on PBS. It is a fantastic CD. I am proud to own it.
I think these 5 men are unbelievably talented. he fact that Mr McGinty is only 15 floors me! I enjoyed the line-up, the composition and the vocals. The harmony of these men is fantastic.
Free Music Review: Great Irish Music Show Hit: 5 Stars"Irish Thunder" is a cross between a stage show and a concert. It features five male singers in solo and group performances, all of them excellent, with a variety of accompaniments, including a string orchestra, drums, bagpipes, guitar--very professional. Traditional and contemporary Irish songs and a few modern standards such as "Desperado", "Brothers In Arms" and a show-stopping performance of "Puppy Love" by the group's youngest singer, who I believe is about 15 and equally talented with the rest of the cast. Although the CD is excellent, I think I would opt fot the DVD, which has the excitement of a live performance and has a lot more songs, including a beautiful Scottish ballad/anthem "Caledonia" as the finale.
Free Music Review: Celtic Thunder Hit: 5 StarsThe video is wonderful. It makes you want to visit Ireland. I love Phil Couter's music and his direction. I really enjoyed the quality of the singers and their different approach to each song they sang. Finding out they didn't know each other before this event, makes me see how professional they are. I also liked the fact different age groups can appreciate them. They will be here this fall and I have made arrangements to see them.
