This is as good a jazz album as any ever recorded. I think that Chaka has an amazing voice, but has spent years recording music that wasn't grand enough for such a big voice (i.e., R&B). I appluad her for recording what I think is her best album. It is truly a work of art and "Diamonds are forever" made me recall the delivery of the late, great Phylis Hyman (who also should have left R&B alone). Please lisen to all of the five star reviews. Even if you are not a true jazz lover, this album will wet your appetite and astound you. Now, let's all pray that we can get a few more albums like this out of Chaka. Don't get me wrong, i love R&B, but some voices need orchestras and hundreds or instruments as opposed to digitized music to accompany them. By the way, Vesta, Tina Turner, Patti Austin, Oleta Adams, etc.-If you read this, please follow Chaka's lead to your local orchestra hall.

I always knew that Ms. Khan was a power house and could sing among some of
the best. She has shown with this album that her depth as a artist stands
with the ultimate like Vaughn,Streisand. I listened to her breath control,
phrasing, clarity, and artisrty as if each number was a short well acted out
play or movie. She took me with her on each number. For me Ms.Khan has
become the well rounded singing that i never knew she was.The circle is
complete and we should all give her the respect that she is "DUE" while
others are lessening with there artistry she is standing strong. I would
love to hear a spiritual album from her! Only if she maintains the same
quality as this album i would buy it without hesitation!!!! Thank U Ms.Khan job well done. Isn't this what we all want to hear the LORD say
at the end of the day.
Free Music Review: I BELIEVE!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Pinch me. Am I dreamming? Ok -- this year has given us the "divas return" - with Patti, Stephanie, Regina, Anita, and (even) Melba giving us new music. I was so thrilled that Chaka is joining the pack! Todays r&b is lacking in a major way, so the classic divas are returning to fill in the void. Chaka has turned out a classic, entertaining, sultry, and satiny album. She felt so at ease. There are a lot of classic renderings on this album, including:
Hey Big Spender
Hazel Hips (nice job)
The Best Is Yet to Come (move over Sinatra)
Stormy Weather (sorry, Lena)
Round Midnight (um, this was hot!)
Teach Me Tonight (only Dinah Washington comes close to this)
Goldfinger (wow)
I Believe -- the best!
If you like good music, love Chaka, like vocalists, miss good music -- BUY THIS ONE! It wont disappoint.
Free Music Review: Classic Masterpiece! Hit: 5 Stars
Classic Khan is pure ecstacy. It's unbelievable that an artist with over 30 years of recording magic can produce such a masterpiece at this period of their career. I would venture to say this is the best thing this songbird has ever done in one project. It's almost as if all those years added up to this remarkable moment.
"Diamonds Are Forever" is an absolute highlight. Perfect vocal production embellished with flawless orchestration. "Stormy Weather" is so brilliant, Chaka could easily steal this signature song from Lena (no offense) and make it her own. Nobody can match the sensuality Chaka brings to "Teach Me Tonight". Many have tried. Chaka teaches them how.
I highly recommend this CD to everyone in hearing distance. Get two copies for I promise you will wear your first copy out.
Free Music Review: THE CLASSIK WRATH OF DIVA CHAKA KHAN Hit: 5 Stars
THIS CD IS AMONGST CHAKA'S TOP 5 ALBUMS. Music Goddess Chaka Khan has returned after 6yrs with a cd that has further cemented her "LEGEND". Chaka gives BREATHTAKING takes on some of the most time honored Pop & Jazz Standards made famous, by Shirley Bassey, Sarah Vaughn, Frank Sinatra & Lena Honre. What makes this cd so special is Chaka makes these songs sound like that are her own originals by Chaka-tizing each one. My personal favorites are "Diamonds are Forvever", a bluesy version of "Stormy Weather", Her own "I Believe", which has HUGE POP HIT written all over it, & "Round Midnight". This is a must have for any serious music fan & I hope this is the direction that our beloved Ms. Khan will be taking her career, I look forward to more cds of this nature.
